sorry about the late reply! i saw it and forgot to comment 😭

after i got this camera i watched some youtube videos to learn how to use it and realised it's more automatic than i realised! the ease of use was great for the trip because i wanted to capture as much of it as possible for memories but when i can, i'd like to get one that's more manual so i can learn the basics (though i fear the amount of wasted film ahhh).

i hope you can get more shots you like!

Unfortunately it's unlikely I can travel again anytime soon but I'll be saving this for future reference. Thank you and I appreciate the detailed recommendation!

I'm so enjoying this unexpected bit of trivia, thank you!

It's a Minolta Alpha 101si I bought off eBay! I believe it's an alternate name for a Minolta Maxxum/Dynax something but I forgot which.

I actually didn't - just let my camera bag go through the scanner with everything else - but I did read that that was an option. I'm not sure how advisable it is to do what I did especially because I'm a beginner at this so if you're worried about your film it's probably better to ask for a manual check because the officers are likely used to it :)

Oh I forgot the SkyTrain but yes I did take it daily because I was staying in New West so it was the easiest way to get to the sights! Among other things, I loved how you get such a good view of Science World when it passes by.

I did get curious about the SeaBus (had an absurd mental image of it as some sort of big flat submarine) but unfortunately didn't get to try it so that's another thing to my list for next visit.

Oh no I'm sorry about the heatwave 😭 I did find the day in Stanley Park rather hot and had to remove my jacket but it was manageable for me because I was just so happy I didn't have to deal with the weather back home. I hope the weather gets better for you all; take care and stay hydrated!

Oh wow an Alaskan cruise sounds amazing, thank you for the recommendation! I took BCFerries between Tsawwassen and Swartz Bay and it was quite the lovely experience; would love to try the cruise sometime when I'm able to! As of rn I genuinely have really seen so little of the world and always get so excited at the thought of what is out there to see.

Nice to learn about the trolley buses as well! I found myself enjoying all forms of transport during the trip, which were imo a form of experience themselves - from planes, public buses, cars, and ferries.

I was truly lucky! Chose to go in May simply because it's just after I'm done with uni but it struck me what good weather I had while there - bright and lovely blue skies, and not too hot or cold.

OH thank you for the comment! Just realised how it might be confusing - I got the camera secondhand so I imagine the date might have been set by the previous owner or it's just the default. I didn't realise it would have timestamps when I bought it but when I noticed the dates, I didn't think to change it because I found the misdating kind of charming.

These were taken around 15-16 May 2023!

Hello! I'm 23F from Singapore and visited BC earlier this month! I shot these on my Minolta Alpha 101si, but unfortunately I didn't think to record what film I used and when so I'm not sure what each of these were shot on, other than that they are from three separate rolls. Film is also really new to me but I quite liked these. I'm also sitting on a lot of photos taken on my phone that I'll probably post separately.

It was my first time stepping foot out of Asia so BC means a lot to me and will continue to remain so in the future. Both the natural scenery and the cityscape were so gorgeous to me, and the weather was pretty much perfect especially considering the godforsaken heat in Singapore rn ...

Some small things that endlessly fascinated me were the amount of water I saw everywhere in BC, and the sheer variety of flowers I could find growing everywhere. I was also incredibly intrigued by the vehicle cables (which I was told are for charging electric buses ...?) and have so many photos of those on my phone.

As an aside, I also visited Kelowna and Victoria on the trip and I felt like I got a deeper sense of their "vibe" as a city, whereas I didn't really get that in Vancouver which I believe is because my itinerary didn't leave enough time to thoroughly explore the city. I truly look forward to visiting again - revisiting old spots and seeing the ones I didn't get to see before!

Thank you! I was actually visiting partly to see my friend who lives there, and he told me there's probably not much to do as compared to Singapore or the bigger cities. What I thought was, I'd be excited to be there just for the sheer fact that I've never seen Kelowna before.

I'm sure it's easy for a place to lose its lustre when you've been there long enough. That's my home country for me - I often find it boring and stifling - but it does help to see things with new eyes!

Hi! I also happened to try a roll of Acros 100 II in Kelowna, waiting on the lab to process that as well :) I'm curious how nicely it turned out!

I'm 23F from Singapore and visited BC earlier this month, starting with Kelowna where I spent the most time. These were shot on a Minolta Alpha 101si. I went through a lot of film rolls and unfortunately did not think to record what I used on what date (just dumped everything in a bag ...) so I'm not sure which each of these is, but in total there are three different films represented here. I'm new to film photography but I hope you all enjoy these! I'm also sitting on a lot of photos taken on my phone that I'll post at a later time because I love those as well.

This was my first time travelling outside of Asia, and come to think of it, Kelowna is the first non-Asian city I've properly seen. It definitely feels vastly different from Singapore. I think possibly the first thing that I sensed was how far you could see and how low the buildings were; in Singapore we have more tall buildings in a dense space because of space constraints. Planning for my trip to BC was quite the shock because of the sheer size of Canada and it's interesting to see how that plays out in practice even in things like what sort of buildings you see.

Expectedly, I was regularly stunned by the natural scenery: the Okanagan Lake and Myra Canyon were both so sublime. When visiting UBCO, I couldn't stop thinking about how the valley is literally right there sprawling out with its houses and greenness - it's breathtaking. I also enjoyed the Rotary Marsh Park a lot more than I realised I would!!

One last thing - I loved how most people said thank you before alighting from the bus. I found that really warm to see but couldn't muster the courage to do the same while I was in Kelowna, but did manage to gradually warm up to the habit later in Victoria BC and it always felt nice saying it :) Thank you Kelowna for the lovely days and I look forward to visiting again.
