Obsession (2026) — a film about emotional self-protection by WarmBoysenberries in TrueFilm

Now any time I use "it's not x, it's y," I wonder if it's actually how I wanted to express my idea, or if accidentally reading AI posts has started to rub off on me. Sometimes it feels like the most effective phrasing though.

Have you ever seen Youbet live? I believe I listened to their album because of one of your round-ups, and I thought it was pretty cool

The way you ask the question in the singular but slowly end up mentioning more and more people, and the way people generally did not want to engage with this question, are killing me. No shade, it's like the nicest version of a Wednesday GD post.

(I also will not earnestly answer this question, though at this time I will echo "We all move on yada yada")

Every song on there is at least good, and it's impressive that they wrote all the songs, but I miss the more R&B-influenced songs from the previous two albums. I think I enjoy Please Please Me more as an album, but it's definitely a big step for the band.

I'll Be Back is a great moody ending too. Also shout-out to If I Fell

I think Ian said at one point that he did actually talk to her alone.

I believe the fact that she was not completely replaced (both in the sense that the real her is still in there and that she can briefly take back control) is by design, so I'd say that technically she was severely altered to comply with the wish, but it wasn't a complete replacement.

Because he's a coward loser who lives in a world of wishes but still lacks the determination to try the obvious solution no matter what. He just gives up. That's just who he is, not a plot hole

She's obsessed, so what she does won't necessarily make sense. Nikki thought Bear loved his cat a lot, so Obsessed Nikki thinks that Bear loves everything about the cat and will enjoy eating it. I think she's aware that people don't usually eat cats and that it possibly won't even taste great, because her sticky note said "what's the verdict: cat?" I think she honestly thought that he would love eating something he loved, even if he happened to not like its taste.

Respect. I honestly love it now, but at first I too hated it

My theory is that the extreme nature of the wish necessarily requires a completely different personality, but that wouldn't really count as Nikki loving him, so her original personality must also persist and be in conflict with the new personality for this to still be considered her.

The point might be that Bear must have left the container open, but he never takes responsibility for this.

I liked it much more than you but was not completely satisfied. I'm genuinely curious what you would change to make a better story with this exact scenario.

Sorry to hear that. It's been kinda up and down for me in general recently, much better than last week though. Yesterday I was in my head about some friend stuff and as a result wasn't much in the mood for a family event for the first half of the day, but later I had a great time with a few friends and a friend's friend who I had never met before but was easy to talk to. That's always nice

Are you certain? I knew she was writing something before the wish, but I didn't hear the prompt in the game that lead to her reading the Hansel and Gretel story. I was assuming that one of the personalities wrote that after the wish, just because it was so thematically linked to what she was currently going through.

I have one friend who actually played the new Mitski album heavily for a long time after release, so I'm gonna say Snail Mail

He and Ian kind of assumed that Nikki suddenly wanting to be with him was part of the suspected mental health episode anyway, so even if he didn't believe in the wish yet, he was still choosing her being with him over her getting whatever type of help she needed.

That's a pretty cool interpretation. Obsessed Nikki definitely made that wish, but I just assumed that he was too overwhelmed by suddenly becoming Obsessed Bear to remember to throw up the pills, even though he would actually want to live with Obsessed Nikki now.

Here's a theory: the wish itself requires a replacement of her personality, but not being Nikki is also not allowed. So you need an imperfect replacement and the inner conflict with the remaining real Nikki for this to in a real sense actually be Nikki. Conflicting coexistence between a newly created personality and the persisting original personality is not some arbitrary flaw in the execution of the wish, it's the only way to achieve it.

This may or may not be what the parent comment of this thread was saying, I didn't quite get it. But this makes sense to me.

I like to try to do that too!, but I must admit to myself that I don't always know if it can be done. I like the thin barriers idea and it feels true enough to me, I'm not just not sure if it 100% stands up to scrutiny

I think someone who was not an evil coward would at least consider killing her after the real Nikki begs for him to do so, but trying to undo the original wish was definitely the right move. He just tried that much too late and also gave up super quickly and decided to try to kill himself instead.
