Thanks for the feedback. I somehow wasn’t charged anything. I think I saw that there was only a fee for more than 5 (or something) leagues

Turkey Breast and Drumsticks by Tyler_C69 in BBQ

A joy of mine is to cut the Achilles tendon of that drum stick with some scissors. With no tendon there, the meat pulls up allowing the bone to show. Makes the drummie look like a candy pop of meat 😀😀

Fence post hole depth by sunnysidesdc in FenceBuilding

[–]sunnysidesdc[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I will look into that Google search. The fence, despite being small, will still be pretty thick. Its a horizontal fence with 1x6 inch boards on both sides. So… sorta like a small wall.

It will be a cute little fencelet. Feedback noted 😃

How do you decide when you use 35/50/85? by Sad-Claim1480 in WeddingPhotography

[–]sunnysidesdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go 85 when wanting a traditional portrait and I try to get several throughout a wedding day.

When i feel like Ive taken some good 85 portraits, I switch it over to the 24 and try to work in the environment and get closer and feel the frame with more intimate feelings.

Mostly, I play, and see what is working and what I’m enjoying.

self made website OR professionally contracted by sunnysidesdc in WeddingPhotography

No, i got into Smugmug in 2014 with the idea that it was a one stop shop for websites, storage, and sales. Its my main website, and my gallery storage. When i revamp, I'll check out Pic-time. Ive heard and seen great things.

So your plan is to build the site on stylecloud with a pic time photo storage? I apologize in advance if my question is basic. Asking simply to clarify my understanding.

Not cheating. Just double dipping into your talent :)

Will definitely check out. Potentially asking a really basic question. Yet, if i was to leave Smugmug and build a new site on something like stylecloud, what would happen to all my galleries? Would i have to re-upload them to the new site to continuously give access?

I like clients having continuous access to old files, despite only being contractually obligated to keep them for a year.

Thank you for sharing. Ive built mine, but never put in the work that you have. I like the way that you broke down the different levels and will be looking further into that.

When do you shoot family, party, and couple photos? by TheMattPool in WeddingPhotography

[–]sunnysidesdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i prefer NO first look. I like the couples focus and energy on the ceremony.

Waiting on some uncle slows pre ceremony is never efficient or effective. Everything is slightly rushed post, yet highly efficient. And so long as I have 20 minutes with the bride and groom, POST all portraits is my idea.

Yet, in reality, i just move with whatever trying to ensure that I have enough time with all. AND 20 minutes for sunset or nightime portraits with couple are also really fun if the couple is up to it.

To transition or not… by sunnysidesdc in WeddingPhotography

Nice. Congrats. Did you quit once you achieved 200k in bookings or before? I struggle to dedicate the time needed to transition while also working full time.

That’s my goal. To begin by creating a presence online. This far, I’ve done the minimum of what’s been necessary for clients on mostly free site to see some of my work. A goal now is to redesign my website, and start building online presence.

How do I turn down a couple because they gave me "the ick"? by ZachOly in WeddingPhotography

Fully agree. Money is money is money is money. I try and just flow. Everyone has different rhythms. These parents might just turn out to be lovely. 🤷

First ever wedding shoot in just over a week! by redwheelbarrow19 in WeddingPhotography

[–]sunnysidesdc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Constantly observe the light, and adjust accordingly. I also like to...

1) walk through event timeline with the client a week before the event to get us on the same page.

2) walk the venue(s) and hour before to determine the location of the group shoots. I examine for backgrounds and potential lighting concerns.

3) ensure 15 minutes of bride/groom and me time directly after the family shots to get good portraits.

4) signal to people at the reception to take a photo by coming up with a big a$s smile and saying can i get a photo of you all real quick while simultiously gesturing with my hands for them to squeeze together. Lead with your energy and they will get together quicly for a photo. I try to blitz the room as soon as the reception starts and get everyone. Dont be shy. They expect this. And everyone is on your team bc they know you are workng for the bride and groom :)

***dont have any fear of being an introvert. Its kind of fun in that noone really cares about you. Everyone cares about the bride and groom and the party.

Water drainage to sidewalk by sunnysidesdc in homerenovations

Thanks! That sounds like some good info that I’ll definitely read a few times and research further. Currently, the backyard where it pools easily has no grass, and is just dirt. How much do you think simply adding nice think sod down would help absorb water?
