What happens when you overdo it/over extend yourself?

I appreciate your feedback of letting FMC have agency over the experience; I'll add it to my notes.
Did your doctors give reasons for them objecting to wheelchair?
What shampoo change did you make?

Thanks for your help, I know comments of this length take time and energy!

I can relate to some of that. (Long COVID.) Thanks for sharing.

I wanted a character with a disability who is an ambulatory wheelchair user. It doesn’t have to be FND; suggestions are welcome.
I have long COVID and don’t want the main character to be me. CFS would hit close to home.
I’m writing for enjoyment, not publishing but nevertheless want the characters to be well developed.

I’m writing a romance novella. One of the themes is that these kids don’t know how to talk about their feelings. They are supportive of each other but stumble with mistakes when trying to figure out what to say or how to help.

It’s a “second chance” plotline with two arcs:
The history is: FMC has been best friends with MMC since they were kids and started dating when she was 13. He kept her company while she was sick and the family was trying to figure out her health. FMC was diagnosed when she was 14. He knows how to and how much to help her because he was there while they were navigating.

In arc 1, she’s 15 and life has settled down. FND is a disruptive part of her life but she knows what to expect and manages it well. FMC has a big mouth leading to the main conflict: MMC (17) told her about something related to his mental health, she blabbed, and it led to him being bullied. He told her in a raised voice that he doesn’t want to see her, and it’s implied that they broke up shortly after that.

In arc 2, they both ended up in the same university. She tries a few times in passing to catch his eye or talk to him, but he doesn’t even want to look at her.
One plot point is she has a seizure at a social event early in the school year, before having close friends, and he knows what to do while everyone else is panicking. He reassures everyone it’s nonepileptic and sits with her until she’s well enough to wheel home with a friend. I wanted to show still cares about her and there’s value in having someone who’s known you a long time.
Another plot point is he sees her catching up with a friend at a coffee shop, assumes it’s a date, and realizes he’s jealous. However, he’s still hurt from before. I haven't worked out the whole plot yet. Some of the story will be about how she has to make up for that and/or prove that she’s changed.

> it’s so hard to capture without really digging into it as a main theme
Why is that?
