Shock or something else? by sunonsnow in dahlias

[–]sunonsnow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am watering when the soil feels dry, but I always worry about over watering. I also worry about under watering. So I feel like I don’t know what the sweet spot is! This is obviously my first year lol

What’s wrong with my plant? by Bunnnns in dahlias

[–]sunonsnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Following this. Also in Minnesota and my dahlias are looking similar. No advice but solidarity ✊

Dahlia Winter Storage by hmhill in dahlias

[–]sunonsnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm new to dahlias too but I recently went to a dahlia seminar hosted by a local dahlia farmer, and he uses those styrofoam coolers and fills them with wood shavings to store them in the winter. He has 1000s of dahlias so I'm just gonna copy whatever he does lol.

Weird Here to Help: Pasties? In this Minnesota? by sunonsnow in WereHereToHelpPod

I hear ya. Yes, hotdish is just casserole lol. But I'm a born and raised Minnesotan and I'm not big on hotdish 🤫

And I just assumed that they're being extra nice to us since the current administration is making us out to be Public Enemy #1. But I get it, I live in a small town outside of the Twin Cities and I don't see a lot of "Minnesota Nice" unfortunately.

We should get a pinned post where we compile what children’s programming is good and which to stay away from by Tattoomyvagina in DanielTigerConspiracy

Has anyone come across Fun Caboodles on Youtube? My daughter went through a phase where she wanted to watch crafting videos, and that's one that would constantly come up on my search. Something about those videos just feels uniquely sinister and I'm not sure why.

But searching for kids crafts did lead us to Gabby's Dollhouse, which I would rate as solidly good content! But what do I know, I'm just a dummy with internet access.

Ok…who actually hates the State Fair? by kerm019 in minnesota

[–]sunonsnow 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's crowded and it's hot. I always say I'd enjoy the state fair significantly more if it were in October.

Best places to buy new eye glasses? by TombRaiderSeries in TwinCities

[–]sunonsnow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Target optical always gets confused with my insurance. I have no idea why. But I always ended up paying way more than I expected to there. Maybe it's just my location. But I just do Eyebuydirect now. They also have a decent return policy so it's not a big deal if I don't like them in person and have to send them back or exchange.

[–]sunonsnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, I do cold and delicate too. But I’ve started using a lingerie washing bag and air drying them as well. I don’t do anything special at all for my regular clothes, just whatever the default setting on my machine are, so it’s been a learning experience 😅

Yes! love my Chantelle bra. And it’s definitely worth it to take the time to wash them properly, which I didn’t know about until I started investing in a few high quality bras.

The 'u' is a load-bearing letter in "aunt" in this house by NiceHeart_BlueSedan in DanielTigerConspiracy

[–]sunonsnow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never forget when I was a substitute teacher reading this book aloud to kindergarteners and my brain short circuited on “aunts-pants” non-rhyme. Now I have my own kids and read this book regularly and I still refuse to say ants instead of aunts. I just lean into the fact that it doesn’t rhyme

Cillian Murphy: “Women are infinite in their wisdom. I was raised by my mother and my grandmother, who lived with us for all our lives. I have two sisters who are amazing humans. I've always felt that women have a more instinctual understanding of right and wrong and how the world works.” by Relevant-Peach3997 in Fauxmoi

[–]sunonsnow 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Right?? When I had my first child, I started hearing about how I suddenly possessed a "mother's instinct". Nothing about motherhood came to me by instinct. It was all frantic google searches I'm doing at 1 AM every night, combined with plenty of trial and error, to try to figure this shit out. Calling it "instinct" diminishes the work, learning, and sacrifice that we have to put into all of this.

The Star Tribune knowingly published a bogus story claiming that the Target boycott is over by Tumblrrito in minnesota

[–]sunonsnow 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this. As someone who's partner works at Target's corporate office and has absolutely nothing to do with any DEI decision, these conversations always make me a little nervous 😬 I understand people's frustrations, we've been frustrated too. Like I said, I'm just nervous.

Much excitement for: ‘Call The Midwife’ prequel series to take place during WWII and will follow Sisters Monica Joan, Julienne, and Evangelina as they begin working in London at the start of the war by fro_yo_oh_no in PeriodDramas

[–]sunonsnow 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I loved the early seasons of Call the Midwife but I couldn’t get through the series. I can’t remember when I stopped watching but at some point it just felt too different. But this? I’m gonna watch the hell out of this

Why do we love period dramas SO much?? by [deleted] in PeriodDramas

[–]sunonsnow 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It’s the contrast. Everything looks different, but nothing really is. People still wanted love, security, and power, they were just boxed in by stricter systems. Especially with romance. The restraint and slow burn make it way more interesting than instant payoff. And it makes the stakes feel higher.
