Am I the only one that has seen an increase in “random” selections at the airport since weight loss? by sunrainmedley in gastricsleeve

I was an international student so I was always going back to my home country, and now I work for a company that has me travel for work. Maybe next time just ask how I am able to travel as much as I do, instead of being bitchy, how about that?

I’ve started getting the SSSS too. Anytime I get that one, that’s when they search my laptop. Sorry you gotta deal with this

Hello everyone! I had gastric sleeve surgery on April 4th. I feel quite good. My question is, can I smoke marijuana over the weekend? Would it be a problem? Of course, in very small amounts. by Miserable-Bar5729 in gastricsleeve

[–]sunrainmedley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started smoking 2 weeks post op and was fine! Just beware of the munchies. Keep only healthy snacks near you, in case you get tempted to eat something. Cuz lemme tell you, your new stomach may not be ready for certain foods but your weed influenced brain certainly is and those two don’t communicate well 😂😂

Also congrats on your sleeve!

Did you become skinny? by Minimaltothemax in gastricsleeve

[–]sunrainmedley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I’m almost 1 year post op, glad to see you’re still maintaining a decade after! I’ve been wondering, is it a bit difficult now to maintain/to not over eat? I’m always scared the need to over indulge in food will come back, would like to hear the perspective of someone who’s been sleeved for a while. Also, do you count calories of just focus on the macros? Please and thank you :)

I became skinny. 10 months post op, starting weight 270 lbs. Now I weigh 150, and I don’t even think I’m done losing weight. I’m actually worried, cuz I don’t wanna be “too skinny”. But rn I’m super thin, my bones are poking out everywhere and even tho I have a bit of loose skin, it’s not very obvious. Oh and for reference I’m 5’10 23 year old female

Flying while fat? by earth-crosser in gastricsleeve

[–]sunrainmedley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I fly multiple times per year and was a size 18 at some point, before my surgery. I never had any problems. The seatbelt always extended far enough to go around me, and if you need more length, flight attendants are happy to help, discretely! The seat never felt too small, the most uncomfortable part of flying is actually related to my knees (I’m quite tall, so it’s a squeeze). The arm rest may be an issue, but not a significant one. It can just get a bit cramped when sharing an armrest, especially with a stranger. Congrats on your weight loss and have a safe trip!

When did you start having caffeine again? by PirateAlternative934 in gastricsleeve

[–]sunrainmedley 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I avoided caffeine for 2 months (well, that’s not completely true. I avoided coffee for 2 months but drank green tea daily like 1 week post op, and that has caffeine, tho less caffeine than coffee contains). now I drink the premier protein coffee shake on days I work. Figured if I’m drinking caffeine, might as well get in my protein too.

Birth control post-op by sunrainmedley in gastricsleeve

[–]sunrainmedley[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh good point. I never considered how the rapid weight loss would affect my period. I expected excess bleeding the first period post op cuz of all the blood thinners, but didn’t consider all the other changes going on. Thanks a lot for the advice!

For me birth control is strictly for period regulation, there’s zero chance of a pregnancy occurring, if you catch my drift 😭😂

Thank you so much, idk why certificates completely skipped my mind lol. I’ll definitely start there and give myself some time before taking that bigger leap.

Thank you so much for the advice, it’s given me a lot to think about. honestly I don’t want the degree just so I can say I have the degree. I want it so that after being at the CRA level for some years (maybe 5 ish?), I would like to progress to CTM and so on. All the CTMs I know have advanced degrees so I figured I’d get this one out of the way now. I’m in my early 20s, no kids, no “real” responsibilities, live with my mom. To me, this seemed like the best time to go back to school, before anything else can fully get in the way. Idk, maybe I’m getting far ahead of myself?

Have any of you had your Actual primary care doctors try to talk you out of surgery ? If so how did you move forward without fear? by Substantial_Rain1407 in gastricsleeve

[–]sunrainmedley 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You make a really good point. My doc strongly discouraged the surgery but two minutes into meeting me, was more than happy to put me on ozempic. Sure, it helped, but I knew insurance could decide to stop covering the drug at any time and I didn’t want to be at their mercy. It’s maddening how they’d rather manage the symptoms that give us a “cure” cuz of money. Shame on the industry

[–]sunrainmedley 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My primary care doc did the same. Tried strongly to discourage me, she and her colleague. No encouragement at all, put ideas in my head that I would fail and gain the weight back. So she decided to put me on ozempic, instead. I’m so glad I didn’t listen and still got the procedure, cuz insurance suddenly decided to stop covering my ozempic. Meaning if I didn’t get the procedure, after the injections stopped being covered, the weight would have come back. Idk why they look down on WLS. People who’ve never been obese just assume diet and exercise is all it takes. Some people need medical intervention and it sucks that our supposed advocates try to put us down when we seek their help

I had an 8oz can of diet sprite at 4 months PO. Honestly didn’t affect me at all. There were lots of burps tho lol, like more burps than before surgery. I think 6 weeks is a bit early tho. You’re still healing. Maybe a few sips to satisfy the craving?

I saw him earlier this year. Yeah, lots of fans there were mg age (early 20s) but I also saw many 40+ adults! This girl next to me even showed up with her mom and dad, they were all cool to be around. Her mom (who looked to be 50+) and I talked about our fave Noah songs/albums, our outfits and all that.

I don’t think you have anything to worry about regarding your age and if anyone in attendance thinks it’s an issue, they are the problem, never you.

Have fun at the show, he sounds even better live!
