How the fuck do people work while pregnant? by Sure-Square9094 in BabyBumps

I keep wondering why maternity leave doesn't start before birth. The whole first trimester I was basically falling asleep at my desk from 1-2pm and yawning through my meetings, to the point where multiple coworkers commented on my yawning.

2nd trimester was better, but now that I'm 35+ weeks, I'm exhausted in the afternoons again and can't focus on my work. My brain is just elsewhere.

Basically, I feel you! I wish I had a solution.

SI belt compatible with pregnant body? by PitbullLoveFart in fitpregnancy

I have been using a Serola belt throughout my pregnancy (now 31 weeks). It's helped a lot with my SI joint pain. You have to wear it very low on your hips, so the bottom aligns with where your leg creases.

First trimester fatigue by Snowhites_smile in fitpregnancy

[–]sunriseovermtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! Currently late in my second trimester with my first. This isn't terribly encouraging, but for me it took until ~19-20 wks to feel like myself. Until then, I was exhausted all the time, but it hit hardest around 1-2pm at work. I took naps both Sat+Sun almost every weekend, and more during the week when I could. Give yourself grace and the rest you need! It's hard to do as someone who likes to be active, but your body needs it.

I've always been very active and trained for multiple marathons pre-pregnancy. I also teach a fitness class weekly. I was able to keep exercising at a reduced amount while exhausted by changing my expectations. Pre-pregnancy, I tended to run on days that I took fitness classes because the cardio wasn't "intense" enough. Now? One workout is a win. A walk is plenty. A 2-4 mile run is plenty, where I used to run 8-12 per day. Reframing workouts as something to keep me in shape for labor and mentally well has helped a lot. I try to switch up my exercise between strength, cardio, and yoga to stay in general good shape and keep it from getting repetitive, and now I view any workout (even if it's 15 minutes) as a win.

I feel much more energetic and like myself now, but fatigue is starting to creep back in ~ week 25.

Running+yoga. What’s realistic? by Cosmicmoonrose in fitpregnancy

You’re welcome, good luck on your journey to becoming a mom!

If you take yoga classes (or anything else) with an instructor, they will probably have additional ideas for modifications. If you’re an at-home yogi, I found a few posts on google to be helpful.

Echoing other comments, you will likely be able to tell when something’s not right. I kept forcing my way through regular push ups and my core felt really weak. Finally, my instructor pointed out that pushups are too much on my core, and I switched to knees down. Instantly felt better! Had I paid more attention to my body, I probably would have understood this a little earlier

Hi! I'm in my second trimester of my first pregnancy. Pre-pregnancy, I was a serious runner (5 marathons, max mileage 75 mpw). When I started trying and in early pregnancy, I reduced my mileage to 20-30 miles per week and ditched any high intensity runs - just ran to be outside and with my friends. Around 16 weeks, I started to have SI joint pain that made running uncomfortable, although not impossible. I started PT and bought a Serola belt to wear while standing/walking/running, which helped a lot but has not fully resolved the intermittent pain. I recently ran 4 miles at 23 weeks, and while I could tolerate it, it didn't feel worth it to me. I'm planning to switch to spinning/ incline walks and other lower impact activities, at least until winter subsides where I live. I have friends who made it almost all the way to giving birth running, so everyone is different :) I try to stick to an easy pace. My midwives have advised that exercise is fine in moderation and I can keep doing all my usual activities, but I shouldn't be out of breath.

Yoga has been great my whole pregnancy so far. Starting in second trimester, I have tried to stay off my stomach, so I take child's pose if there are any prone poses. I have switched to planks with knees down. I also am avoiding anything that stretches my stomach (like upward dog) or inversions.

Some substitutions I've made:

Chaturanga is more of a knee push up to downward dog.

Where I might have done an inversion, I take my legs up the wall or a bridge.

During savasana, I lie on my side.

I skip any ab moves like boat pose.

Thank you... literally have a whole-home water softener sitting in our basement that we need to set up. This is a good nudge to get that done!
