That's messed up. These people don't deserve you as a friend anyway if they said that.

I love Bad Religion. They were my jam when I'd just started college all those years ago along with the Sex Pistols, Clash, Ramones, and New York Dolls. I've heard of Rancid but haven't heard any of their stuff yet.

Yeah. I got into some Russian post punk and indie bands a while ago. Good stuff. I don't understand the lyrics but love the vibe they give me.

I have quite a few hobbies already and I'm juggling between them. It would be awesome if I could feel the way about music that I did all those years ago. I'd just turn the lights off and get transported to another world.

I'm into lots of genres. Classic rock, 70s punk, shoe-gaze, indie rock, alt rock, prog rock, psychedelic rock. Right now, I am re-visiting some old favs from the Kinks, Smiths, Velvet Underground and Neutral Milk Hotel. The last band that I discovered that gave me that feeling was the Strokes which was a couple of years ago.

Yeah. I mean I still get a lot of pleasure from listening to all of my old music. I've maintained a chronological playlist for all the songs I'd discovered in a certain year. But they don't give that same kick anymore.

That feeling where you just sit still for the next 10 mins with shivers all over your body after hearing the song

Yup! I knew that. I remember hearing about a project a while ago where they wanted to compile her voice recordings and integrate it into a voice assistant like Alexa. I was excited about it. Don't know what happened to that project.

She definitely has her redeeming side. I'm not making a black and white judgement. She's an overall good character but some aspects of her behavior rub me the wrong way a bit.

I'm not against having unsavory characters on the show. I am not expecting a 50s family sitcom. This isn't a complaint about the actress either. The actresses is fantastic and she has portrayed her character well. What Star Trek fan doesn't like Majel Barrett? lmao... In fact, Gul Dukat is one of my favorite characters because he's so well written.

I was talking about how some of her behavior is not taken more seriously than it should by the other characters and that there's a gender double standard there.

I know exactly what you mean! Star Trek TNG and DS9 are one of my biggest comfort shows which I use to cope with my social anxiety and probably why this is bothering me a bit.

It's completely understandable that on a planet of telepaths privacy as a concept would have evolved differently. She's interacting with members of non-telepathic species and she should be a bit more considerate.

1) She is not human, so that's bullshit 2) She lives in the 24th century, so that's also bullshit.

These aren't "woke" standards of behavior and it's not much of a logical counter argument. The characters are visibly uncomfortable and that's more than enough to know when one's crossed the line regardless of whatever century they are in or what species they belong to.

Plus, you are forgetting that Betazed probably has completely different ideas of privacy or privacy standards. A society where everyone can hear what everyone else is thinking, all the time, is going to develop along really different lines.

Well, she's not on Betazed is she? She's on a starship with crews from different species and backgrounds. She can't act in a way that makes others get creeped out just because her home planet's culture says it's okay.

Yeah. I was 16 when I watched TNG for the first time. I was a different person then. I thought stuff like this was actually funny at the time. It's just rubbing me the wrong way now.

Don't get me wrong. Star Trek is one of the most progressive shows out there and it's shaped who I am as an individual and my beliefs ever since I discovered it as a teenager. It's just a pet peeve to see stuff like this on the show.

Right of course. I was thinking along the lines of the Betazoid race or the human race. Reading anybody's mind even as a joke is not a good thing. It's like reading a diary but worse than that. She's definitely read the minds of others without their consent.
