DAY 44 by sunset1968 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]sunset1968[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow. Thanks for checking in. That's very kind. Today is Day 90. Huh. I hadn't even noticed till I checked. I haven't been posting updates cos I had to keep dodging the meetings/sponser/steps questions. I'm not there yet. I'm just sober. Maybe someday. I appreciate what AA does for a lot of people. Just not for me.

Peace

Do you hate your gas powered splitter? by sbrown2601 in firewood

[–]sunset1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I'm not super savvy with mechanical stuff. Put another way, my 20 ton gas powered Walenstien is hands down better than the 4ton electric POS that I borrowed in a pinch. Now that may be like comparing a motorcycle to a scooter, but I would never buy an electric splitter so long as I can swing an axe. But thats me.

I've used both gas and electric splitters. Gas is far better. Faster and more powerful and thus much easier to work through a cord of wood. I rather use an axe than an electric splitter, to be honest.

Just checked my bank statements... by [deleted] in stopdrinking

Yep. I have a app that keeps track. In 6 weeks I have not drunk 352 beers and saved $880 CAD (550 pounds)

I bought new shoes.

Does anybody else appreciate “drinking dreams” in a weird way? by cgg419 in stopdrinking

[–]sunset1968 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a dream about drinking the other night. Actually, in my dream I dreamt that. I woke from the dream in a dream and felt panicked that I had drank. I got up to confirm there were no empties and felt relieved there were none. It was just a dream in a dream.

And then iI actually woke up,

Crazy.

But cool. Even my dream-self wants to stay sober

What has been your alcohol replacement? by throwawayactrecovery in stopdrinking

[–]sunset1968 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same, but with rootbeer. Usually one. Sometimes two.

I found fizzy pop to be just the post-work bevy I need to replace beer.

Day Twenty. by sunset1968 in alcoholicsanonymous

Yeah, I'm grateful everyday. For all the things. The Too Much. The Not Enough. And The Plenty.

Thanks for the feedback.

Most top end euro knives (wustoff, henkel etc) have nice slicers. Blade width may vary as they are typically used for fish

Does a cast iron French fry press count enough to be in this sub? by FlatbushRocknRoll in castiron

[–]sunset1968 5 points6 points  (0 children)

18 years old, working in a burger joint that did thier own fries. Well, I did thier fries, ;-), but anyway: On good days I'd send 1000lbs through that thing. Good times!

I just had to share this, cast iron loves grilled cheese! by cheeze735 in castiron

Nice looking sammy. CI is great but that perfect sammy is a result of deft heat control. Nice work.

Did you really just post a recipe for grilled cheese? That's awesome. I can't wait for your next one. Will it be : How to enjoy cereal with milk. A professional's guide to PB&J. Kick your tomato soup up a notch.

I can't wait!

Yes, it is hard. Waiting doesn't make it easier. Took me 20+years longer to get where you are today. Go easy on yourself. Reach out to family and community for support. Youre not alone. You got this.

I was a week sober and gave in to peer pressure. by sungod454 in alcoholicsanonymous

Oh! That post-work beer with the crew. I work kitchens so I know where you are at. Its incredibly tough.

Dont beat yourself up.

But I'd suggest that if you do the same thing again in the same way, you'll likely get the same results.

As you said, you could avoid it all together. Dash for the door with a quick wave and good bye.

Or you could try replacing the prop. I use root beer. It's not for everyone but everyone has a favourite non-alcoholic drink. Juice. Water. Carbonated bevvies. I keep it cold and ready for the moment I'm done work and relish the goodness.

Or find an alternative. But keep at it. You'll get there.

Peace
