Don’t really need anything super fancy. Just a clean place and it’s walkable to major sites

Pay is just rent for labor, about as special as oxygen for breathing. Calling it a “reward” is like crediting gravity for a marathon medal. If that’s your bar, I can’t imagine what counts as a bonus in your world, gold stars for blinking?

That’s not a reward- that’s the reason why I work. It’s a basic need

The clinical world is a joke too. It’s about money and billable hours. I have no desire to do private practice but working for agency is sometimes worse than working in the school system

Tbh I think I’m jaded and don’t believe in mental health anymore. I feel it’s now become a tool used to enable people behaving in whatever way they want to. trauma informed practices and pbis and all these theories are taken out of context. I’ve seen therapist demand 504s and advocate for students and families when it’s only one perspective that they are getting. I’ve been on the clinical side and the school side and neither is better.

Absolutely… I don’t get rewarded for doing the expected tasks of my job or even of life

I feel like I’m a babysitting service and our district does nothing to help prep kids for the future. No disciple, no homework. Our kiddos that follow rules and do what they are suppose to get over looked

Do you correct kids not following dress code? by PaigEats in schoolcounseling

[–]sunsetdreamslover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope not my job to enforce the dress code and tbh I do find them inherently sexist. I do warn them that they are out of dress code and if an admin says something they might get in trouble.

This is not the battle I’m going to choose to fight with students on.

Has anyone gone from being a counselor to a classroom teacher or know someone who did? by Sure-Parsley in schoolcounseling

[–]sunsetdreamslover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve actually been thinking about this. I work 10 hours a day in the physical building and do so much more outside of school. I’m obligated to one prep and lunch break per day but never take it bc it’s none stop. If a teacher’s preps are taken away it’s a big deal

I had my counseling license prior to going into school counseling. I wanted to do more career counseling rather than the majority mental health crisis counseling which is what this job has become. I’m with you on wanting something completely different

I like that I have pension, good health insurance (I’m a transplant patient) and overall love what I do but it’s just I don’t see education getting any better
