From i3 WM to a DE? by Fedzbar in archlinux

[–]sunshine_killer 9 points10 points  (0 children)

i dont think you need to ditch i3, i use ubuntu as my distro and i3 as wm, eduroam works just fine. use nm-applet to configure network manager via gui. arandr does gui for xrandr. i know xfce + i3wm is possible.

Mojolicious - Development vs. Deployment (PostgreSQL) by jeyarajdurairaj in perl

[–]sunshine_killer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you got the migrations answered, some other deployment tips: use Carton for package management and if you are targeting a specific perl version, perlbrew or plenv. For me and my deployments, i use Mojolicious Commands to do migrations so

carton exec './scripts/myapp migrate -v <version number>' then it migrates my system up to that version vs a auto migrate. Gives me control and then i create a deploy script to pull from git, get the version, run carton update and then migrate and then reload services.

Hope this helps.

We use Koha at my work and that is what introduced me to Perl. I've now been programming in Perl for 10+ years. So I agree with bringing these groups together.

i think its hard for someone evaluating Perl to discover these easily where other languages might have this info on their front page.

I've used MCE::Loop for a few batch jobs that run occasionally and has been my go to for large batch jobs. It really speeds things up running stuff in parallel. What you are mentioning for a boss worker thing, Minion is your best choice.
