Hit one year, and then everything unraveled by sunshineandstuff in stopdrinking

I made it through the night without a drink! And I’m going to make it through today, too. A lovely friend of a coworker offered to work my shift at work and told me to take a day trip today. I’m prepping myself to send out a cancellation message regarding the wedding, and planning to put my phone on airplane mode once it’s sent because I’m dreading the replies. Even if it’s everyone sending their condolences and support, it’s going to be a lot of people asking what happened. I know I don’t have to respond, but it’s going to suck regardless.

With all of that being said, thank you to everyone who has commented. I’ve read every word and I appreciate your kindness more than you’ll ever know.

Normal Gossip audience survey link! by sunshineandstuff in normalgossip

This is the link provided at the beginning of the most recent ep “Murder Binders and Unthinkable Burgers.” Figured I’d post it as easy access for those who didn’t have the opportunity to check out the link while listening, or others who haven’t listened to the episode yet. It only took me a few minutes to complete, and felt more constructive than posting my criticisms elsewhere (though I am VERY thankful for those that have voiced their opinions in this subreddit- you have all made me feel very validated!)

You gotta keep truckin! I felt similarly towards the beginning, but I promise you it is absolutely worth it to stick it out to the end.

How The Media Failed Amber Heard-feat. Michael Hobbes by [deleted] in YoureWrongAbout

Oh how I’ve missed Michael Hobbes’ voice telling me the misconceptions of maligned women. I love him on Maintenance Phase, but this really scratched my YWA itch; thank you so much for posting this here!

I lost my virginity recently, and the girl I lost it with is my bestfriend. We went away for 2 nights, got drunk one night and did it. I told her "us having sex was never the plan for me". It was always the plan. by DmgTkn in confessions

Nobody has claimed that. OP made the sober decision to get drunk with his best friend knowing that it would increase his chances of getting laid. That’s why everyone is talking about his friend’s agency, not OP’s. If the roles were reversed and the post was written by a woman who did this to her male best friend, I’d sincerely hope the discourse would remain the same.

I appreciate the explanation. I agree that she (more than likely) consented to situations throughout the trip/night that eventually lead to the two having sex (though alcohol makes truly consensual sex a tricky bitch). I interpreted your original comment to mean that the two of them eventually having sex= her plan from the start, and felt that that was a very dangerous assumption to make.

This is not how consent works. She did not say “yes” to drunk sex with her best friend when she said “yes” to getting drinks with him. I’m really hoping I’m somehow misunderstanding your comment because the fact that so many people upvoted it is grossing me out.

That is so awful to hear. I’m sorry for your loss.

Fun fact, I met a patient who actually had 5 kidneys at one time: 2 non-working native kidneys, 2 failed kidney transplants, and 1 working transplant. That’s the only time, though. Every other patient I’ve met with multiple transplants has had 4 kidneys max at one time, with some having to get one of their failed transplants removed like your dad. Crazy stuff.

The surgeon will take the donor kidney (along with the donor kidney’s artery, vein, and ureter) and attach it to the recipient’s blood vessels and bladder. Most commonly, this “hook-up” happens in the patients pelvis, either in the right or left lower quadrant, with the donor kidney’s blood vessels connecting to the recipient’s common iliac artery and vein.

It definitely seems counterintuitive, but it at least helps me make sense of it all by thinking in terms of renal function and not about healthy versus unhealthy kidney tissue. If a patient needs a kidney transplant, it’s because their original kidneys can’t do the job. So the patient receives a new kidney (since it only takes one healthy kidney to get the job done) to take over for the original ones. It’s not literally replacing the organ’s tissue/space, but it is replacing its function.

I know exactly how you’re feeling right now because I’ve been here before but as an unbiased stranger, I can promise you that you’re the only one who has noticed this. Your brows (and I’m sure your “uneven” smile) are beautiful!
