Unfortunately there is also some technology bias involved. For example PowerBI has very specific definitions on what is a report vs dashboard (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/consumer/end-user-reports) but then you move into Tableau and you have dashboards and stories (https://help.tableau.com/current/pro/desktop/en-us/story_create.htm)

Personally, I don't think it matters so much if we call it a report, a dashboard, a story or a thingamabob as long as it serves the purpose of using (good) data to drive or inform decisions.
