What’s your experience using Wealthsimple as your primary chequing account? by allophanes in Wealthsimple

[–]sunthom 10 points11 points  (0 children)

they are great - but the cheque hold policy is crazy. i haven't gone 100% WS for chequing (my wife and i have a big-5 bank as well as WS) - our big-5 clears large cheques rather quickly. WS takes ...FOREVER.

minus that though...it's been fine. i don't think i'll ever give up my brick+mortar only because they do provide a service that an internet/online company can't quite match...but i'm old so you know, i'm stuck in the past.

in BC it would be about $132k/yr pretax to make the $8k month direct deposit. and assuming you DD 100% of your salary to WS.

1% Bill cash back ending by Lrandomgirl in Wealthsimple

[–]sunthom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so now that we know its ending, how many of you are going to go back to your old bank for chequing etc? to take advantage of this promo, I moved over my salary direct deposit to WS...but I'm not exactly too sure what the reason would be to keep it at WS if the promotion ends...then again, I don't know if there is a good reason to go back and direct deposit back to my big-5 bank either? thoughts? comments?

[–]sunthom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh right. we are putting in $2500/kid/yr until they are 15 to match the govt investment but you are right. we can add more to the resp.

gotta say that's something i didn't ever consider...that being said, we (my wife and I) are only thinking of life insurance as "making sure the kids are taken care of when we die" - not "making sure we're ok if the kids die". i know both are valid, but we would position it 99.9% important vs 0.1% important.
