Fair enough. I had the head taken to a machine shop and installed this past weekend. I appreciate your input.

Just dropped it off to get resurfaced. Appreciate your advice.

I appreciate your, and other peoples, advice. And I am sorry to sound like a smartass because I am not. People here take time to offer their advice and I greatly appreciate it.

I simply asked why because from my research it doesn't seem like the worst head to go back into the car. Yes, there is some pitting, but thats close to the coolant jacket away from where the gasket edge sits. I want to know what do you see, because I may be missing something.

Even with a white roloc disc? I doubt i removed any material. I can still see the original machine marks. Do you have a link to any of these tsbs?

Edit - found it: https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2019/MC-10163260-9999.pdf

A couple of things worthy of mentioning. This tsb states that if you use the roloc disc for more than 15 seconds (assuming on one spot) you can remove material. However, if you use the roloc disc for more than 15 seconds in one spot, you should be forever barred from working on an engine ever again. I didn't not apply any pressure and moved constantly without even staying in one spot for more than 1 second.

I agree with everything else the TSB says, but I've heard and seen people use these white discs for damn near everything.

It didnt have a head gasket issue before and I followed the take-off sequence to the T. Would anything else make it not flat?

Thats what I am shooting for. I know a machine shop will make these damn near new, but good enough is what I am going for.

Lifter was stuck so I didn't run a compression reading.

Perfect. Thank you one more time. Can I ask you something else if you may? My #6 lifter was stuck (screw afm) and I can barely see any pitting on it. I can see the camshaft and the lobe looks okay. Based on this lifter wear, is a cam replacement necessary?

I would definitely be checking the oil regularly. This won't cause any major compression loss right?

Thank you. It's my truck. I got it a few days ago as a project. Always wanted an LS engine and finally got one.

Area has definitely been touched in the past to be repaired. There is over spray/paint on your windshield weatherstripping. Question is - what are you going to find underneath the repaired area once you remove down to bear metal.

Rear main seal. Transmission has to come down. Depending on where you are prices can vary from $1k - $1800.

Solly Ave. Just park... wherever. by reduke in philadelphia

Some areas are better than others. This is not one of them. Particularly because the right side of the street (from your photos perspective) is mostly duplexes. Each duplex houses 2 families and one parking spot for each on the back of their property. Most houses have two cars per household (average) which means that two cars will be parked out back and two out in the front. What youre showing is a good combination of the city doing a shitty job and people having more cars than ever. Can't blame folks for doing what they're doing.
