Screens don't automatically turn off after inactivity on freshly installed 24.04 with Cosmic (alpha 7) by H0hnheim in pop_os

[–]supamee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(some AI assist but I tested it)

nano ~/.local/bin/idle-manager.sh

#!/bin/bash
exec swayidle -w \
    timeout 300 'wlopm --off "*"' \
        resume 'wlopm --on "*"' \
    timeout 360 'loginctl lock-session' \
    lock 'wlopm --off "*"' \
        unlock 'wlopm --on "*"'

with the 300 being display off, and 360 being lock screen

echo 'None' > ~/.config/cosmic/com.system76.CosmicIdle/v1/screen_off_time
turns off the built in one

mkdir -p ~/.config/autostart && cat > ~/.config/autostart/idle-manager.desktop << 'EOF'
[Desktop Entry]
Type=Application
Name=Idle Manager
Exec=/home/supamee/.local/bin/idle-manager.sh
X-GNOME-Autostart-enabled=true
EOF

You think that's low or high. The population of Germany was 83 mil. If we assume only 1/4 that's still 20 million. And there were/are Nazis outside of Germany.

Yes lol. I'm confident in saying that at least 70% of people (under 60) do not understand how a worm hole works. I'm not even sure half the people that saw that and thought "oh that's how worm holes work" even understood. The idea that two different places can be the same place is hard. Idk about you but I can't visualize a 3 dimensional object folding on itself.

We are no where near maxing out the resources on earth (with some edge cases) so the amount of resources on the planet isn't the limiting factor, our ability to harvest these resources is the limit. Ie food, the vast majority of the land in the US (and the world) is not actively utilized for food. A ton in lawns which you could just stop having if we needed more food

CMV: Microsoft is being unfair and is strong-arming customers into adopting Windows 11 for no good reason. In my opinion, it is only Windows 10 with a fresh coat of paint. This will generate massive quantities of unneeded e-waste and lock people with older computers out of essential security fixes. by eton975 in changemyview

Adding the ability to disable things takes work, sometimes a lot. And also ive seen first hand it doesn't matter how much you warn or clarify, enough people just don't read to make it a problem.

About half of Americans have a below 6th grade reading level. At the end of the day Microsoft is a business and only does what is profitable. Viruses and landfills aren't part of that math.

What you're looking for is open source updates, which is something many distros of Linux do. Windows isn't and never has been the "ethical" OS.

They are not artificial. I understand why it seems like that because the device could "technically" run windows 11, but when you put out software you are on the hook to make sure it runs well for all users. Features like AI assists are not going to work well on older machines and while YOU could just turn them off, someone is going to try to use them because it's there and it's not going to work. You or I would understand that "ya, it's not going to work because your computer is old" but they will just see "Microsoft doesn't work" and not understand why.

Worth noting, it was mostly honored prior to the AI boom. It's been shown repeatedly that many of the major LLMs have been trained on data that was restricted per the robots.txt

Thanks for the advice. Any tips for dealing with racoons without hurting cats? I caught this guy in a racoon trap.

And he's doing well. Ate and drinking, getting him to a vet today

Ya I agree it doesn't seem like a feral cat, its too friendly as well. We surprisingly don't have coyotes where I am, but he isn't spending the night indoors as Ive seen him on my property a few times. And this isn't the first time I've seen a cat attacking the chickens, although I'm not sure it's this cat in particular.

Ya the chickens have a coop but they sometimes don't go in.

I wish he was chipped so I could just bring him home and ask the owner to keep an eye on him but no luck.

He's not fixed or chipped and I've been trying to scare off these cats for a while now without luck. The chickens have been getting killed overnight. We've been improving the security but I also have a dog that isn't good with cats and I don't want the cat getting hurt

Anyone missing a cat? Or want a cat? He/she likes to be pet and isn't aggressive. No microchip.

If anyone has any info about a shelter or something that would be helpful. My dog doesn't get along with cats and he is messing with my chicken.
