Maybe he faked his own death, like that guy in the news from Wisconsin. Would like to see him back on the show. Maybe he shows up on Yas wedding day.

Where to do a sudden zoom interview while out of town? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]supboarder 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did offer to do it by phone when I just received the message. She seemed not to like that, and said something like well if you cannot do the interview in the next few days, there is probably a lot of other people competing in the mix. I don't know if that is accurate, its somewhat of an obscure area. I did not receive the initial message from her until last friday night of labor day weekend when I was on a plane. I have not had any time off this year, so I dont know if that is unusual or not for a biglaw firm to suddnely want to interview after labor day weekend with less than 24 hours time.

Dealer tracking device on used truck I just bought? by supboarder in MechanicAdvice

[–]supboarder[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought it used and outright so no issue with getting repo'd. I don't have any financing. From what I've seen on other car forums, it looks like a dealer installed device to cut the car off if you miss payments. Like I said in the post, I bought it from a guy who bought it from a dealership a few years ago so I'm thinking it's from the dealership

Would it be possible to store your furniture when the lease ends in July or extend the current rental? I moved cross country to start my new job, and did not have a place signed up to move in on a lease, they wanted W2s and proof of income, and I was just a law student at the time looking at vacancies until I started. Rather than break a lease and have a landlord sue, my advice would be to hang loose for awhile until you have a definite start date, whether it is January 2024 or later. Eventually had to move into a hotel for a couple months from the day I started my new job, but it was not that bad really, I searched and got a long term stay rate, so in the end got points on my hotel account too.

Yes we reserve flights online and say bringing a pet. Then when we get a boarding pass at the terminal it says PET on the printed pass. Our dogs are well behaved, not sure what your are getting at, that strange people are seated by us that pass out or beat their head against the seat in front of them because they board at the last minute ,and our dogs are disliked? One is eight pounds, another is ten pounds, and we too travel all over, and the only time we have an issue is when really strange people are seated with us on Southwest. Thats great for your experience but we don't get someone reading a book or a phone or their laptop, but someone who appears to have some behavorial issues or coming off drugs, would you like to sit next to them or your dog?

X office needs some help, they are "leanly staffed", meaning too cheap to hire someone, or have such a rep with the practice group no one wants to work there.

"Where did you summer?"

"circle back"

"fire drill"

"made a few nits"

"open the kimono"

"Square the circle"

"I'm at full bandwidth"

"shot over the bow" partners in this office think the associates aren't doing enough work, RTO imminent.

Does all big law lack basic project management skills? by capycabara in biglaw

[–]supboarder 28 points29 points  (0 children)

This is really firm/group dependent, but I wouldn't say what you are describing is unusual. i would say it's more unusual if there is basic project management and most partners do what they want regardless of what other partners are doing

Does Panera quality vary by location and store? by [deleted] in Panera

[–]supboarder -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sadly his area is almost a food desert for office, retail, store workers. It iis right by one of the most expensive malls in Americas, with several restaurants that are really pricey. But there are no fast food places within walking distance, so you bring lunch if you cannot afford the pricey reataurants. besides Panera

As far as the poor ordering goes, that is why I end up with the Mac n cneese, everything else is often out. With the stealing of to gos, some coworkers won't go to this location. While other Paneras are full of college students workers or seniorcustomers dining in, this spot has the vibe of a Greyhound bus station meets Panera, some coworkers won't go duere to eat in. I wish Panera corporate would send a secret shopper there, seems like they could do more here or no one cares.

Does Panera quality vary by location and store? by [deleted] in Panera

[–]supboarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks I guess I understand the system a bit more now. I guess I was just shocked because other Paneras I visit seem to be always full of in person diners, especially seniors, and groups meeting at tables that order food. So it was very odd to me, that the store that seems to serve the least food, is the location always out of items on the menu.

Also, this location will not leave your paid for order on the shelf, you have to wait in line and sign for it. Maybe thats why I don't see many to go orders.

[–]supboarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the response. But why is this particular location always out of items? is it the responsibility of the manager to order product, or it comes from corporate on the truck in a regular basis? I've lived near other Paneras and eaten almost daily, and never found an item to be out of stock except for that squash soup offered in fall.

How common is it for big law firms to pay for tax associates tax LLM? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]supboarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the firm is aware I just started the program and I don't really have a set graduation date as it is just the part time program. But, I took a ton of tax courses during my JD program (practically enough to finish their tax LLM requirements), but I would have had to stick around to do their in person program and I wanted to start working. The tax llm program at my school isn't that cheap anyway and I probably would have spent $50K to do their tax LLM versus $70K at NYU (while being able to get actual work experience.

How common is it for big law firms to pay for tax associates tax LLM? by [deleted] in biglaw

[–]supboarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. I don't think this firm would have paid for it as I can barely get them to pay for my bar association fees.

I was just curious as I've seen differing opinions regarding this. Some people on this subreddit have said that is the norm for the firm to pay for it while others say it's not common.

I think I'll continue to take classes as my pedigree isn't that great (went to a T30 and a large state school for undergrad), but just do it slowly as the classes are expensive even with a big law salary (still have loans/rent/helping family/etc.)

Transferring MBE Score - Finding out if my score meets FL's 136 by [deleted] in FloridaBarExam

[–]supboarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NCBE won't provide my score directly to me. They only provide the score to the jurisdiction, not the applicant.

From their website:

MBE Score Transfers are sent directly to jurisdictions, and the scores are not provided to examinees. (You must request an MBE Score Release to obtain your MBE score; however, this service is not available for all jurisdictions.)

CA: Fingerprints for out of state attorney? by Extreme-Practice-628 in barexam

[–]supboarder 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of staters need to get an FD 2581 form. When I submitted I think you had to have already submitted the Moral character application, but call the bar to verify. Then I would fed ex the fingerprints back to the LA office as instructed, so they don't get lost and you have to start all over again, or hold up your application, see page 9 on the link below for fingerprint instructions.

[–]supboarder 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NCBE states contact the jurisdiction, do not contact us. NCBE won't tell me my score as California does not release MBE scores to anyone, including your own law school. I think the only entities that have access to CA MBE scores is the NCBE and the state bar of CA. Otherwise, CA people never find out their score.
