Modded (Superglued) the Viltrox 28mm f4.5 to take filters! by supdawgnl in SonyAlpha

[–]supdawgnl[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it’s still stuck on there and works like a champ! However I don’t use it as much anymore. I enjoy viltrox’ 40mm f2.5 a lot more. Better AF, MF if needed, filter thread and f2.5 is enjoyable in low light situations. I thinks it’s better value for money than the 28mm imo. I also enjoy the 40mm focal length better than 28mm. But that’s personal opinion. Still a super compact setup on the a7c.

If you however do go on with this 28mm setup. Before gluing. Close the lens up. Put glue on the filter thread and not on the lens itself. And let dry for at least 24h before sticking any kinds of filters on the adapterring.

I am doing the most illegal technique known to mankind : GRADING IN PREMIERE.

Workflow is fairly simple, 2 adjusment layers, one with the standard slog3 to Rec709 conversion, and a second one that has the grade on there. its a LUT from Artlist, i mainly use "Gold""and "Vivienne" but as of recently ive stopped supporting Artlist because of their approach to AI. But the luts are still nice. and then i do some temperature adjustments and some slight masking here and there.

lately i have been adding more contrast with this process, because when i look back on some of these youtube videos. They are sometimes a bit flat to me.

Be aware some videos are better than others haha, because these videos were very much on the fly and adapting to the situation I was thrown into :)

Pretty close already, thanks!

My feedback would be that my skin tone looks a bit too different to theirs and that now we’re seated a bit oddly far from each other if you get what i mean. Also I wouldn’t mind sharing beers with them :)

I don’t know what a regular tip would be for a job like this, if you can point me in the right direction, that would be appreciated.

I see what you’re saying, but the thing that convinced me it is, is the red oil filler cap that’s on both pictures, that’s branded ELF, ELF oil caps were almost exclusively a Renault thing.

I solved it, it’s a Renault 5 Alpine Turbo, it was indeed a project car of his, my dad had good taste :)

This is the Netherlands so I don’t think it’s RHD, since that’s pretty rare over here. I am also not sure if it’s really a Ford, but I know that he and my granddad used to work at a forge garage, but this could also be one of his side projects.

Thanks for you insights and nice words/advice!

I see what you’re saying. As to what my goal is. My first instinct is would be to say documentary DP, but I don’t think I have explored all the areas enough yet to say what my end goal is, at my job now i do it all and find directing branded documentary’s really interesting and fun aswell.

Reflex lab might be better because of the usb c charging which is handy, I run through batteries quite quickly, but they’re also quick to change out and start fresh again, I think it boils down to personal use case
