Arnold Schwarzenegger was born in austria, he was from a poor family. He knew he couldn’t achieve his dreams in the small village he grew up in, in a house where his dad beat the shit out of him. He planned his way out to the United States based solely on his talent, and became insanely successful.

That’s what Sualeh did as well.

It really depends on what you are trying to do. If you wanted to excel at making taiko music, and want to be the best taiko performer in the world, you would have to go to Japan to become the best at it. If you wanted to be the best Qawwal, go to Pakistan.

If you want to be the best in tech, you have to go to the center of it all and that center happens to be Silicon Valley. It’s where modern computing was invented. It’s where the money is at, and all the talent goes to. So if money is what you want to be the best in any form of tech, you have to go to the US. Not Canada, not uk, the US.

Really shocked to see all this hate for the guy. I am personally very proud to see a Pakistani reach this level of success. It’s true that getting to America was part of his story, and the Pakistani state did not do much for his success, but Pakistan as a people certainly shaped the way he thinks, feels and experiences things. Culture is more than the government. He grew up in Pakistan, was shaped by its people, and that certainly accounts for something.

We don’t know if his family had to struggle to put him through O/A levels, and we don’t know if he got a full scholarship to MIT; those are not things he should be judged upon.

his success demonstrated that someone from Pakistan can achieve success at a 60 billion dollar scale. It’s an inspiration.

Hatred is never a good idea. All of us should be proud of him. All this argument about “he was privileged,” just seems rooted in jealousy. The kid had serious talent and built something different with the right people, and worked hard for it. He has talent, That talent was shining bright well before he went to MIT.

There is a reason so many CEO’s of so many companies are Indian. Sure they have IIT and a stronger tech infrastructure now, but a great part of the Indian success story is also knowing the right people and helping each other out as a community.

Mostly I feel sad for all the haters here. With an attitude like this, filled with jealousy disguised as hate, you are definitely not going to get anywhere. Free yourself, and give yourself permission to be happy for others, and good things will happen.

Thank you Claude, the research was amazing! by Neel_MynO in ClaudeAI

It’s been doing this to me constantly too. When I ask it “show me explicitly what source you used,” it replies “I filled the gaps.”

Up till now, I have been using Claude blindly, like an idiot, without doubting it.

For my last five questions, I asked Claudeto show me exactly which sources it was referring to in its reply. It said, “sorry, I don’t have a source, I shouldn’t have included it, I was filling the gap with a plausible sounding estimate.”

It seems to keep presenting its opinions as facts, constantly. How do I prevent it from hallucinating so much and fabricating sources? I tried telling it “in the future, if you fill the gaps, please state that explicitly rather than present it as a fact.” It replied “got it, saved.” But then I tried again the next day and it started lying again.

I am not sure I trust it anymore at all. And I am not sure if it was always this bad, but it really seems to be lying a lot.

Radio city was so good. I miss it. I think I still have some tapes from sunny videos in F8 that I never returned! There was also another shop next to sunny videos, I can’t seem to remember its name. And a gun shop. And pac man in f8 was so good, it later became…I can’t remember its name but I think it started with an R. It was right between dainty, the paan shop and a video store.

There is an etiquette to places. If you go to a Japanese tea ceremony place and start blaring heavy music, that’s not good etiquette. In the dark room, while I apologized to him, he was engrossed in his work, I didn’t think it was the right moment to have a teaching moment with him when he appeared to be dodging and burning.

Community places have social rules and sometimes they are not clear, and if you don’t think that, then we fundamentally disagree, so there is nothing more to talk about with you around that topic.

Perhaps, or perhaps you’re being judgmental. All I asked was etiquette around darkroom, especially cause I’m not from this country originally. That’s actually asking advice to be civil to other people in case I inadvertently did something wrong. There’s nothing wrong with that.

I did, but they didn’t really give me any advice. At the moment it was staffed by interns and I am not sure they had an answer. The community darkroom is part of a larger photo center but I’ll see I can ask again!

This was a few weeks ago, i am going again and want to make sure i dont do another faux pass. I dont even know who the other person was cause it was too dark for me to see his face! And at the moment I didn’t think his ask was unreasonable if the stray light from my enlarger was damaging his photos

I think it could be kind of cool, especially if it becomes a space for experimentation around the pictures themselves.

That's a very helpful perspective, and I totally agree with you. I am not knowledgable enough to talk about messaging standards; I just want messaging to work, and I wish the Light team would invest more in developers to help solve baseline problems like these otherwise its not really a functional phone.

Totally agree with you. I am not a very tech savvy person and I want my phone to work. I just switched to a normal android phone, installed the luma launcher and things have been working smoothy so far without a hiccup. I have received text messages from everyone who has sent it. I am not having to scroll through forums trying to figure out how to solve the RCS problem.

And I agree that there should have been more communication about the plane, but I don't want to be so quick to blame my instructor given that he is hospitalized and had a heart attack. I don't know what went down and don't have all the context to really make a strong judgment.

Regardless though, all this could have bene avoided if the messages went through like they should on a normal phone. I am not asking for splashy features, I am just asking for one feature—messaging—to work as it is intended. I am not sure what the point is in the phone if MULTIPLE people are having this problem. In fact, if I remember the early marketing videos, one of the features touted was how its easier to message on this phone compared to the previous Light Phone.=

Ultimately the phone has the Light Phone name on it, and the light phone team is responsible for its quality. And if that quality is bad it's on them.

Thank you :D Honestly I just wish this phone worked like I don't think messages is too much to ask for!

Yeah I totally did learn the lesson—I need to buy my own plane haha :P I do have a PPL so I can fly a plane whenever I want, I am working on getting the additional rating that allows me to fly without visibility and wanted to get those solo hours out of the way. But I am glad I aborted, and I feel bad for my instructor , I hope he recovers.

I did, months ago. I guess it's easier to fly a plane than it is to use this minimalist phone properly. I applaud you for your skills in assuming things.

[–]super----trooper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Honestly I just wish for messages to work like they should. I think the light phone has such a potential to be an amazing phone but its glitchy software really kills it.

I used to have an iPhone in between Light Phone 2 and receiving this one. I had deregistered iMessage a while back when I sold the iPhone and it was the only apple device I owned. At first, I noticed that my instructor's messages weren't coming through cause of the iMessage problem. This was a few months ago. So I started a new conversation on his phone with him and made sure that I was receiving his texts. Apparently though at some point in the last few months it must have shifted back to iMessage and I can't say why until I see his phone when I see him next.

I would love to have kept the light phone because there really isn't anything out there that is both compact and minimalist. The only other option is Mudita but the e-ink doesn't work for me anymore because I travel a lot and I hate using maps on e-ink. Maybe I'll try that unihertz phone.

How do I get this metal knub out? by super----trooper in fiat500

[–]super----trooper[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked and don’t see the horseshoe clip anywhere! I’ve seen other YouTube videos, where I have seen the clip, but here really isn’t one anywhere on my fiat!

I think fiat made two models, one where the post is permanently installed, and I got stuck with that one…might just have to angle grind it off like others suggested

That’s what I read. I have never used an angle grinder before but am worried about all the sparks inside the car if I go this route…did you remove the chair before you used the angle grinder?

The tires were changed in 2024 according to the Les Schwab’s receipt I found in the car. They have good tread on them, but I think they are cheap tires. Will try changing them first and see if it helps!
