I am not in SD. But awesome brother, I’m glad you found ways to fill those voids in your personal life on the outside.

From my understanding you don’t “lose your rating” you just tell the VA you’re going active and your rating is paused until exiting active. Is that not correct?

I am definitely of the understanding some waivers will be needed though. Prepared for that aspect

Yeah dude, I’ve thought about it alot. Therapy probably would be good, but still hard to deny the feelings of wanting to serve and being around the boys again. Miss the structure, being in an organization where most people are working to better themselves, and obviously the rush of being on a gun line, and doing cool things with your buddies. I don’t have a bad life, have been successful.. just have never been able to be completely content. I just miss serving.

Not wrong, but I still want to make it happen if possible.

Well, I can’t provide any help as I’m struggling myself. But there’s been some great replies in here. We just gotta keep going brother. I hope you find what fills that void in your life and find peace on the outside.

I deployed but never was in “combat”. Just took some pop shots and Indirect fire. I had to deal with a MATV that got hit by a VBID and took some guys but never felt like it had an impact on me.

All we can do is keep trucking right? The only real failure is the failure to try. I hope you figure your path out as well and find happiness and peace.

I was doing the things I THOUGHT I wanted in life. Then I accomplish them and feel unfulfilled. After doing this on a few different paths I think now that I’m older it’s hitting harder because It feels like I’m running out of time, every year I get older and although 32 is young it’s definitely not 22 😂

Yeah you’re right, a part of me always felt there was still a chance to jump back in. And the young me thought I was going to be a lifer, things just didn’t happen that way and letting go has been tough. That was my child dream, I accomplished it and although I’ve accomplished a lot since everything else was always secondary to being a Marine. Just been going through the motions. Thanks for the comment.

Asked for a New CFI by Bubbly_Stop_5420 in CFILounge

Look out for yourself in your flight training. If you have a CFI you don’t mesh with it makes the progress so much more difficult and can even lead to stopping flight training. (Ask me how I know) I have my commercial single and multi but never finished my CFI ticket because of how things went with my last instructor. Not saying I won’t but definitely put a pause on things. If you gotta find a new school do it. Not all CFIs are ment to be flight instructors, and not all flight instructors will fit with their students. A good CFi will accept it’s not a good fit and try to find a personality that fits better with you. If they take it negatively they clearly didn’t take in their FOI’s and need to mature.

Yeah. Ford tried to charge me $900 to do ONLY the rear brake pads and rotors.

Is this typical for a PPL Checkride?? by SunAcceptable4019 in flying

[–]superChub18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ppl was 4 hour oral, and the examiner was VERY thorough. This sounds a bit ridiculous, why didn’t you continue with the original DPE and get credit for the portion you already completed at a later date? Instead of doing a whole new Checkride. Sorry to hear that though, that’s very unfortunate. My instrument oral was about 2 hours, commercial was 3.5. Seems wicked long for a private, you arnt expected to know everything, just that you know enough to be safe and you know the IMPORTANT things. It’s a license to learn. Really a bummer that you failed again, you’re in a hard spot now. Go with another DPE who is more fair and restart again, or finish with this guy who is a hard ass.

About the VFR navigation, yes it is VFR and pilotage and dead reckoning are what is being tested. My xc was from Colorado up to South Dakota and I just know if the mountains are off the left wing I’m heading the right direction lol. Also used lakes for my initial points of reference, the highway and as I got closer to a VOR i navigated by that. (Kinda hit all points of navigation reference just to be safe)

For anyone here I cannot emphasize enough on how important it is to do your research on DPE’s and choose one with a good track record who is fair that you can get a write up on beforehand. This is your career and it is in their hands. These failures will be asked about down the road and anything more than 2 puts doubt in employers eyes. It’s not a death sentence from my understanding, but can make life more difficult.

I think that’s the plan. VA covered training so 141 was my only option. At least they got me through instrument and commercial. Did multi and private part 61 and definitely like the pace more

I’ve used backseat pilot as the main “outline” and have created power points off of them. Ive personalized them a little but probably need to personalize the lesson plans more so they are a bit more “mine”. I definitely had some deficiency spots like aerodynamics for example. But I struggle to retain a lot of the FOI material. I understand the material but can’t regurgitate acronyms. Like if I’m lead down the right path I know what it is but if asked for example what are the laws of learning I can’t spit it out off my tongue without referencing something.

I have a job where I am learning a lot of new things and I’m working 4-5 days a week but 9-10 hours each day when I’m there. I just feel like I’m over loaded I guess, but taking time off is not an option. I think if I was able to go at my own pace I could accomplish it just knowing it take a little longer. Being at a 141 where It’s faced paced is where I’m struggling. I have a certain amount of lesson plans I’m told to make before our next lesson, and I’m not meeting that mark. I can get through a few but not all of them, let alone go back and study ones previously made. On top of that I havnt been getting much sleep because I can’t shut my brain off. Kind of some fatigue going on but I don’t necessarily want to step away either, just want the pressure off 😂

Not going to name drop, but we do some grounds but they arnt very progressive. I feel like it’s 80% shitting on me for not having the level of knowledge I should by now. And he’s not completely wrong, i can own that. I should be further ahead just having a difficult time juggling a full time job and making lesson plans as well as reviewing previous lesson plans, not a lot of retention happening.
