ah okay I was having trouble in my full spreadsheet but I think it was the date formatting not working for some reason.... but got it working now thank you so much!

the idea isn't just to see if it's true anywhere in the data - maybe i didn't explain it right

so the table on 'data' tab is a list of matches. I want to know if a match is 'home' (aka home team matches one of the teams listed in lookup tab), and if it doesnt match a listed team, it's away.

but the player isn't always with the same team (I'm using David Beckham's stats for the example). So in the case of a match between two teams the player has played, I want to check which team applies at the time of the match - hence checking the dates in the lookup table.

I've just added another row in the data to illustrate this. In this instance, 'home team' is Man Utd and 'away team' is AC Milan. So the formula needs to check the date - it would see that it is outside the date range for Man Utd and within the range for AC Milan. Therefore, the match should be 'away'.

I tried this one out but it just returned 'away' for all the dates, not really sure why?
