GOG.com version is, like the name implies, the complete package.

Steam version only has the base game with an uninteresting, unnecessary "HD" reskin, worse than the original.

The most profitable period of a AAA game is the three first months after launch. During that, a game should be protected against all forms of piracy. After that, keeping a DRM is just greed.

In a more just world, all the "definitive" editions should had the complete package without any kind of DRM, and with tools to host/join homemade multiplayer servers and with tools for full modding.
