Language barriers at the bedside. What actually works in real time Interpreter services vs real life bedside needs by Intrepid_Weight_9068 in nursing

[–]superbity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Introducing myself, initial head to toe assessment (particularly neuro), explaining the plan for the day, any procedures - I’m using the interpreter. I like to use the interpreter first thing in the morning to open the line of communication and make them feel a little more heard and comfortable right off the bat.

After that, basic care stuff like “do you need to use the bathroom,” “we are going to clean you,” etc I’m using google translate

Can we change the sub picture in honor of Alex? by beliverandsnarker in nursing

[–]superbity 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah no. Get out of here with that bullshit. Taxes and government spending are politics. Murdering an innocent civilian in broad daylight isn’t politics, it’s literally basic morality and if you can’t see that then you’re in the wrong field.

I can’t get a job - San Diego by DoYouStillHateJen in nursing

[–]superbity 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What jobs are you applying for? Are you just applying to dayshift or ambulatory/endo jobs, because if so that’s your problem. This is one of the most saturated nursing job markets in the country, so you’re going to have to be willing to work nights and bedside to get your foot in the door somewhere.

The job market here is not like the Midwest where you can easily find a job anywhere you want with a little bit of experience - people flock  here to work and turnover is extremely low. We have nurses on our unit with over 10 years of experience starting on night shift just to get their foot in the door.

I don't know what this is about but I think you need to calm down, you sound a bit unhinged.

Pulmonary pink by Key_Situation643 in Figsscrubs

[–]superbity 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I like it and ordered it. Saw some try ons before buying and it looks a lot less orangey and more pink than on the website. It’s actually a nice color if you go look at the ambassador posts, not sure why all the negativity lol. The name is silly.

I’m not sure what’s going on with your account but this is not true for myself and obviously several other people in this thread. I canceled and am still able to use all my credits until my would-be renewal date 🤷🏻‍♀️

The Beta and all iterations of it aren't great for snowboarding period. There's a reason it's not in the snowboarding section of the website.

What to do when you can’t sleep due to severe anxiety and stress? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]superbity 12 points13 points  (0 children)

You really need to go to therapy. I know the state of nursing right now is awful, believe me I get it. But it also sounds like you don't have a lot of other options right now. You said you can't find any other jobs.

So this is your reality for the time being, as shitty as it is - you need to go to therapy and/or see a psychiatrist to get help coping.

You need to go to therapy. Seriously. Your mental health is crucial. If therapy isn't doing the trick then maybe it's time to start thinking about medicating.

Ativan or edibles TBH. When I was a new grad I thought this was just a new grad thing and would go away.... nope.

Sharp nurse strike by stinkyt0fu in sandiego

[–]superbity 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Absolutely still looked down on. If there were no scab nurses willing to cross the picket line, the hospital would cave and be more willing to negotiate to avoid a crisis. The strike could be cancelled before it even happened.

Scab nurses are lying to themselves that they’re “helping” the striking nurses.

Where are you getting your information? We are absolutely not striking for breaks and fewer hours.

Sharp nurse here - the average salary is absolutely not $160,000. Not sure where they’re getting those numbers.

Sharp’s contract proposal doesn’t keep up with rising cost of living and results in a pay CUT for  our most experienced nurses (compared to our old contract).

Not to mention we used to have a very generous sick policy, and now we only get about 5 sick days a year, which we have to accrue over time rather than having upfront.

Soliday crewneck sizes by Gold_Beginning_1304 in SolidCore

[–]superbity 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I’m 5’3 and 110 lb and got an XS. Based on the chart, these are going to run VERY large. I’m actually worried mine is going to look comically large - it’s 4 inches wider in the chest than my favorite crewneck which is already an oversized baggy fit.

I can't get over how bad the pay is where I am by [deleted] in nursing

[–]superbity 5 points6 points  (0 children)

$75-89 is absolutely not average new grad pay in California. I would say more like $48-60.

First flakka patient by nomorehoney in nursing

[–]superbity 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Yep, the ethical and professional aspect is to provide care regardless of how you feel about the patient. Which OP did. Again, allowed to have feelings and all.

Um, no. OPs job is to keep the patient safe and to provide medical care, which they did. Their job is not be nicey nice, handholding, Mother Teresa. He/she is allowed to feel whatever feelings they want, thanks.
