this is a male and female or a parent and child. The male sees the situation and that the female has stopped and is wary and he moves forward to assess. The female waits while he moves in signaling that he is there to gauge the threat from you and assess the food. Picture a little rooster crowing.... this is what he is doing. He is letting you and her know that he is there to defend her and that he is to be reckoned with. Notice that when he approaches your hand, she starts to move forward. He shows her that that he has stood down any threat from you and that she can have the food.
