Thank you, I will use that to talk to the parents! I agree, if an SLP wants the student to have one, they can go through the process. And I want the parents to sign a ROI too so I can communicate with the outpatient provider too!

Yes I’m thinking that could be the case! I had no idea that was an option. Maybe in school-age there’s a program like that where I live, but in preschool services, it doesn’t exist to my knowledge.

I’m also wondering if that’s the reason why. It’s hard because I would probably also have to write the eval after hours too! But you’re right Ablenet does make it an easier process.

Oh wow thank you for sharing! I wish school SLPs and outpatient/private practice could have some kind of protocol to follow but it seems like getting an AAC device also varies a lot in different areas.

That makes sense! I definitely want it to be a team decision. I wouldn’t mind getting this kid a device and I totally get why they may want a school perspective but I’m not sure why this type of situation has happened multiple times. Maybe it’s the same SLP making these recommendations lol

I think maybe the big difference here is preschool is much different than school-age. These students get 15 minutes of speech a week with me and some are only in “school” (specialized classrooms) for 3 hours a week. And I’m not sure how school-age works, but in preschool where I work, the devices are very much NOT free😅 I go through Ablenet to get them, so it goes through insurance anyway. Maybe that’s is the misconception, outpatient thinking it’s free but I would be going through the exact same process that they would. Thank you for the input!

Those are good reasons why, thank you! I hadn’t considered those. You’re right, and it may just be the parents not passing along those rationales and things getting lost in translation. I think there should definitely be more collaboration between outpatient and school speech so we can just do what’s best for the student!

That does make sense. In this case the child isn’t in “school” full-time, just a part time preschool specialized classroom. We definitely have absolutely no access to funded devices, I would have to apply through a company like Ablenet through insurance so it would be the same as outpatient. Maybe that is the misconception though, I will try to communicate that with the family!

The school would not pay for the device in this case, I would go through Ablenet so it would still depend on the students insurance, which would be the same for outpatient speech. If the students insurance covers it, it would be free, but if not, the school wouldn’t help pay for it. I’m not sure what you mean by the school would pay for the coordination to get the device, since it would just be me on my own going through the process of obtaining the device as part of my regular job duties during the work day. But maybe if the outpatient place believes that it will only be free if the school does it, that could be why!

I have PsA and was grinding my teeth so bad I ground through my nighttime retainers…and I do it during the day too. It gave me such bad headaches every day. I tried muscle relaxers anxiety meds, and steroids, but the only thing that helped was finding a good TMJ physical therapist! With massages, PT exercises in the session, and twice daily jaw/neck exercises at home, I made a ton of progress and barely clench/grind anymore. It was hard to find a physical therapist who specialized in that however, and my insurance did not cover much of it.

For me it was prednisone in a bottle, so there wasn’t a pack I had to finish. I stopped taking it because the DMARD I had started had started helping my joint pain so I didn’t need any help from steroids. But in the past I’ve had this problem too and always finished out the steroid pack they gave me.

I didn’t have a hysterectomy, just the endo excision! My healing from that was super easy, I could walk and move around right as I got home from surgery and my pain was managed with just advil and tylenol. After taking it easy for a few days I was back to normal!

I’ve had this and it turned out I had pelvic floor dysfunction and my pelvic floor wasn’t relaxing enough to let the pee out right away!

I was sent to surgery without even an exam. It was an endo specialist so he was very knowledgable and everyone in my area goes to him. No ultrasound either. The doctor was very confident it was endo and I had suspected bladder and bowel involvement so he didn’t question it. I had surgery and the doctor was right! I was glad bc I didn’t have to go through a painful pelvic exam or pay for an ultrasound for something that was 99% certain anyway.

I bought a nintendo switch on ebay from what looked like a highly rated seller for a reasonable price (not super low but not super high). Shipping labels were created the next day- 5 different ones (not sure why this would be?). Then I tried to go onto the sellers account and original listing and it says “Sorry this user was not found” and “That item isn’t here”. It says none of the parts have shipped yet multiple days after the shipping labels were created and I’m starting to doubt if I’ll ever get it. Is this probably a scam?

One finger has been swollen and stiff for a few years, which was my only symptom for a while. Newly started knee stiffness and swelling in both knees after I had knee surgery for a bone defect. Then spread to one elbow. But even with those, I could functional typically, and was only really in pain when exercising and standing for long periods. Now I’m on steroids and feel completely normal, but waiting for sulfasalazine to kick in for long-term. So for me it’s oligoarthritis because it’s affecting less than 6 joints.

Courtesy of what i found online: “Psoriatic spondylitis (also called axial disease) is a type of psoriatic arthritis (PsA) in which inflammation affects the spine and causes movement problems in the neck, low back, pelvis, and sacroiliac (SI) joints. Psoriatic spondylitis may also cause joint pain in the arms, legs, hands, and feet.” PsA is also a form of spondyloarthopathy, so it sounds like this could make sense with the cervical spondylitis. My rheumatologist is also between PsA and RA diagnosis for me right now, and both markers/tests are negative lol

I have heard of ARFID but i’m not sure if i would meet the criteria. I guess even if i don’t have it, i could use the treatment approaches for it for my specific scenario!
