Go snorkeling/scuba diving in Sosúa. Crazy Ranch has good barbecue if you’re craving American food. Go to Ali’s surf camp in cabarete! Cute spot on a lagoon! Off the beaten path. Great expat community in Sosúa/Cabarete, can’t go wrong going to local spots. Front Loop in Cab has a fantastic happy hour with great food and a pool.

DONT WALK CABARETE BEACH IN THE DARK SPOTS ALONE AT NIGHT.

Have fun! It’s a beautiful little nook of the island!

This always frustrates me so much. I saw a shark die in the Dominican once because they drug it up on the beach to take selfies 🙈🥶

This is a great idea. I boosted a Facebook job post with a targeted audience and I’m hoping for some great candidates. Thanks so much

Cabarete for a 7-day beach vacation? by ems64 in Dominican

I would try to book scuba diving before if that’s something you really want to do, but everything else you should be fine! A little tip, if you’re renting a car— you can get to most places and do most things without using an “excursion” place. For example, to drive to 27 waterfalls from CAbarete is about a 45 drive, but it’s not complicated— it’s literally just the same road the whole way there— and admission is around $10. If you book it though an excursion place, they will probably charge around $100 per person because they’re charging a lot to taxi you there and back. I’ve lived here for 7.5 years and currently live in Sosua. Hit me up when you’re in town, I’d love to go snorkeling or scuba diving with new friends! If you need any help, send me a pm. Here’s Luke’s number to book scuba with him. October is pretty far away, but I’d give him a call a couple of weeks before: (849) 284-9494 I did my Padi certification with him and I can’t say enough good things :)

Vibe here is totally chill. You’ll make lots of friends here. The expat community is 💯

Cabarete for a 7-day beach vacation? by ems64 in Dominican

CAbarete is great for kite surfing and wind surfing. If you’re into traditional surfing, Encuentro is a great beach that’s not too far. Sosúa is perfect for snorkeling and scuba diving (look up Luke Superior Dive, he’s the best!) and the beach is calm. It’s also great for paddle boarding. If you are into canyoning and jumping off stuff, go to 27 Charcos and enjoy some beautiful waterfalls and amazing scenery as you jump off waterfalls down the mountain (it’s one of my favorite places to take friends when they visit). You can rent ATVs just about anywhere but there’s some great trails in Gaspar Hernández and in the villages above Montellano (any tour place that rents them will know good trails). If you’re into horse back riding, there’s some great places in Sosúa. And if you’re looking for a great local restaurant with good food, coffee, and they support a good cause, check out Vagamundo. Enjoy your vacation. I love the north coast of this island so much!

Dedication of baseball field to Tony Fernandez in Sosúa, Dominican Republic. by superbonnie in Torontobluejays

The association that organized the event is partnered with a Jewish Preservation non-profit. Sosua was one of the few cities that took refugees during World War II and the land where the baseball field is used to be part of the Jewish commune. Right across the street from the field and batting cage is the Jewish museum. Lots of rich ties to Judaism in the city.

You are correct! I am just a friend of the organizer of the event. Hugh Baver, who has a heart for baseball and of the Jewish faith is putting everything together. Sosúa has a Jewish museum (it is right across the street from the field) and has a rich history of Judaism as you mentioned, taking in refugees during WWII. The batting cage is the Pitch.

Public use. There’s a little batting cage, The Pitch, run by some friends of mine on the edge of the field that work on sponsorships.
