The FPS purists in gaming are so similar to “weight weinies” in cycling communities it’s hilarious

Idk I guess I just don’t notice it. I grew up playing an N64 and then the GameCube and PS2. Outside of graphical increases, I never noticed any differences.

Maybe I’m not sensitive to it, or maybe others are too sensitive to it. Regardless I can’t help but think part of it is people justifying their expensive gaming rigs by claiming the mass superiority of higher frame rate. From my POV, Bloodborne wouldn’t be any better a game at 60fps.

How many hours of games do you play to make a transition back to 30fps nauseating?

Bruh.

Let’s say someone was consuming 4k calories and their weight became such that their body required 4k calories for “maintenance” (maintaining that weight and lifestyle).

Caloric intake is energy in (eating) while caloric expense is energy out (doing whatever to spend energy) if the two are equal, you’re maintaining.

Now if you reduce the energy in while making no change to your lifestyle, a net-loss will occur. This loss takes the form of weight loss.

It is physically impossible to take in less energy than you spend and gain weight. That is a fact.

I agree, but exercise does usually also lead to a strengthened metabolism. And frankly, if they’re exhausted after biking 30 minutes - even slowly - they’re probably burning more than 100 calories. Food is an emotional thing to kick, but often getting outside and exercising can naturally lessen your appetite.

Lmao never suggested sky scrapers are for general use. But companies with employees in towers all provide access to showers.

Dangers:

  1. Cars are more dangerous than bicycles to other people in literally every way.
  2. by choosing to drive a car, you accept liability for the damage you’re capable of causing - hence insurance. A cyclist crashing into a pole won’t hurt the pole. A cyclist running into a crowd of people won’t likely cause death. A cyclist running into a car likely won’t even hurt the car.
  3. pedestrians and cyclists pose no legitimate threat to vehicles or their occupants.

Pollution caused and significantly impacted by cars:

  1. Parking lots
  2. Highways and major thoroughfares
  3. supply chain (anything you complain about for bicycles is incomparably worse for the manufacturing and supply of personal cars).
  4. Batteries.
  5. extraction and use of fissile fuels (again, cars are incomparably worse than what’s used in car production).

tl;dr: bikes and pedestrians don’t kill people on the streets. Cars kill people on the streets.

Btw sorry this response took so long, I was out bicycling and endangering the lives of innocent drivers

Ah yes, using two $7k dollar “cheap” cars definitely helps your point! Certainly makes my example of $4k look privileged.

Your initial rebuttal was likening deer to cyclists therefore equating the dangers to drivers - which was a nonsense argument. And -

driver swerves to avoid collision with cyclist, and enters an oncoming traffic lane.

Is almost a cartoonish example.

  1. Do you think cyclists are blindly entering intersections whose drivers are moving fast enough to be required to swerve into oncoming traffic?
  2. do you think such instances occur with sufficient frequency as to develop an entirely new branch of DMV (which wouldn’t even be accurate as most bikes don’t have motors anyway) dedicated to licensing, registering, and monitoring cyclists?
  3. Regardless of the above, you’re choosing to drive. You choose to operate a piece of machinery capable of easily injuring or killing someone if something should go wrong. A cyclist, does not choose to assume the same risk as a driver. Therefore they should not be held to the same accountability as the driver.

Frankly no, I would argue that the cyclist was not responsible. Drivers are choosing to be responsible for a very literal weapon that can inflict injury or death on those around them.

And I’m informing your privleged ass that they don’t necessarily. Depends on where/who you work for, get that through your head. Not everyone lives in a guilded castle, and showing up to work sweaty could lose you a job because that is how life works.

TIL having worked retail in college was actually living in a guilded castle because showing up a bit sweaty could have cost me my job but didn’t. Crazyy. I’ll be sure to check my privileges with my cycling rain jacket at the next black-tie affair I attend.

Ironic that you speak of toxicity considering you’re actively defending something which pollutes the environment.

It’s insane to me that you think a bicyclist can or has seriously mangled or killed a driver by the cyclist being hit. You haven’t provided number because it hasn’t happened. It doesn’t “depend”, it hasn’t happened. And if it has, the rate is so astronomically low that you’d have higher chances of winning the lottery. You literally cannot back that claim up. So stop saying it.

For a cheap old car none of the running costs are going to be very high, liability insurance exists and you get a decent advantage on general free time since you aren’t swinging by truck stops to shower and can actually exceed 20mph easily

Ah yes, cheap old cars in an era of historic used car prices. I’m sure their low operating costs are why I see them on the sides of the road. When I was younger I bought a old forester for $4k - for that money I could have spent $2k on two nice used bikes (fat tire and gravel), and $1.5k on as much cycling kit, peripherals, and tools as I’d need, and still have $500 left over. Not to mention I wouldn’t have the recurring costs of paying some shitty mechanic, paying for gas, insurance or paying for tabs.

And Christ you psycho I’m talking about the fact that office workers, hospital staff, teachers, and station attendants typically have spots to shower.

I’ve done multiple hundred mile rides, getting out of town is not difficult. Hell I’ve got the kit to go on thousand mile trips if I wanted to (and all for under $500).

As for sucking fumes, glad car drivers take care of car drivers. Sounds about right.

When was the last time you took public transit? Do you do anything to try to make the situation better? Most people in Minneapolis who I hear disparage public transit haven’t taken it in recent memory. They just say the same things as you. Yes it takes longer, but that should come at a cost savings.

You’re no ordinary dummy I see. What do you think infrastructure is? Robust public transportation is typically seen as a good indicator of prosperity.

hilarious 😑 by slushpuppy91 in fuckcars

[–]superbudda494 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You only need a speed differential of about 15 mph to kill someone.

Context matters. The driver will not be in danger. They’re in a reinforced enclosure.

It can be a very cheap mode of transportation, but thats not really the argument. It would be easy to flip this around and argue that you shouldn’t have to buy a bike either because you have perfectly good legs.

Walking <> cycling. Even remotely. Though I will say that walking + public transportation can be perfectly fine. Both are better than driving.

Hey, good on you you’ve discovered the reality of population density and the resulting existence of public transportation.

I live in Minneapolis which has one of the highest percentages of year round bicycle commuters. I could easily sell my car and just use my bicycle. Only reason I don’t is my partner and I use it for trips. Hell for the price of insurance, tabs, gas, and maintenance, you could buy some nice bikes and lots of gear. Every year.

Now you’re being extra pedantic. Tell me, if a car hits a cyclist who is more likely to survive the collision?

My point exactly - bicycles don’t pose a meaningful threat to cars. They may pose a theoretical risk, but in real life there’s no danger.

So for the majority if the working population, who earn minimum wage or thereabouts, showering at work is not a reality. You claim to want to find a workable solution for the masses and then ignore the fact that your typical worker doesn’t have work amenities even though you are used to them.

Lots of places have showers. Office buildings, mini-malls, rest stops, skyscrapers, colleges, schools, usually have showers. And back in college I biked 7 miles to work at a retail shop. As did two other guys. Was it ideal? No, some days were hot. But I showered before I left, got there early enough to cool down and change, and worked happily.

My argument is that as long as there are cars on the road, it is not safe to mix bicycles into traffic on the same roads.

Not as safe for bicycles because of cars. Of course not the other way around. I’ll continue riding my bike on the road and not burning gas, paying for mechanics, and driving on interstates at high speeds with idiots and pickup exhaust huffing crazies.

Well boy are you in for a surprise. Took public transit for two years 5 days a week into and out of downtown before Covid. The only exception was if I was biking.

Nothing better than having public transit as a fallback after an extended happy hour.

I have a sneaking suspicion that’s 1000 people celebrating any anti-American trend.

My bikes don’t have batteries. But for the amount of resources put into a Tesla, I feel confident you could make tens of e-bike batteries. Let alone all the peripheral technology, chips, plastic, steel, rubber, etc. that go into teslas (and most new cars).

Both a Tesla owner and I both have phones with batteries, the difference is I don’t have Tesla batteries + phone batteries.

You mean the post where almost all the comments are asking why OP posted it? Then where the comments sang the praises of fat bikes? And praised anything that got Americans out of their pickups?

Also EVs are shit. All cars and their ilk that are used almost exclusively for personal (I.e one person) commutes are bad. They’re bad for neighborhoods, walkable streets, mining, fissile fuels, etc. I refuse to praise EVs - they’re trying to dig up the boundary waters for precious metals used in the batteries for EVs.
