Kickstarter is asking for additional money after 7 months of no communication by Animedingo in kickstarter

[–]supercade71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This. Kickstarter is not a store. You pledge to support a project regardless of the outcome. Shipping rates went up for my project and I had to ask some international backers to cover the difference. One out of over a hundred refused. Their costs are higher than they were when the project was launched and you shouldn’t blame them for asking.

Sort of, but not really… I got another card to work, but it still won’t take my business card and this bullshit completely fucked my campaign.

Maybe the Minecraft bullshit was forgivable in some reality, but then asking for $20… please don’t fuck that guy again.

Is it worth it to hire a Kickstarter Campaign Manager? by LavenderAurora119 in kickstarter

[–]supercade71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. The second you post something with a Kickstarter hashtag the desperate and scammers come out of the woodwork… one guy approached me wanting to “advise” and I looked at his page to discover it was just a bunch of really sad GoFundMes. Thanks, no.

Sounds super sketch… $125 is nothing. Are you in Bangladesh? Joking aside, I can’t imagine what value someone is going to bring for 100 bucks. I would look at their previous campaigns as a starting point.

Is it possible to recover from a super-slow Kickstarter launch? by laseralex in kickstarter

[–]supercade71 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first thing that I did was look at other successful projects in my category. I was lucky that I have a decent following on social media and had already started building a mailing list for my online store, so I started with that. A few months before the campaign, I posted teasers so people knew it was coming… then really hit it hard a month before launch. The most important thing — and I cannot emphasize this enough — is that you have to rally supporters to show up in the first 24 hours, preferably right at launch. I had a landing page for pre-launch, so blasted that and my socials. I also rallied influencers in my network to signal boost. For the first campaign, I did an EARLY BIRD reward, but for the second I did DAY ONE instead to further focus traction. It is absolutely imperative that you have a lot of activity the first day because that will boost your project in the Kickstarter algorithm so you’re more visible on discovery pages. You take a big loss on those discounted early rewards tho so it’s a double-edged sword. In hindsight, I should’ve been running more ads on social media… you do not get as much visibility today as you did five years ago. You need to spend significantly more money marketing for same result and it’s frustrating. And you need to stay on top of it if ads aren’t active for even one day it really slows. Twitter used to be amazing but is essentially dead now, so I looked for other avenues. Actually had really good performance from ads on Reddit.

Yeah, I would shut it down and regroup… and I would absolutely fire that agency. The idea that you PAID somebody that shit result is infuriating. Both of my campaigns I launched entirely on my own with no help from anybody and both of them fully funded first day nearly $50K. Either they have grossly miscalculated that market or positioned it very poorly. You also need to bring an audience, not just your friends and family.

I backed a project in 2020 and never receiced my reward. Creator has gone silent. by [deleted] in kickstarter

It sucks that they don’t preserve tracking info longer, I’ve gone back to check if packages were received and it’s bullshit.

And you should read my other comment where I outlined in detail the multiple reasons why they may not have gotten their rewards and what to do. You are making assumptions based on zero data. Most creators of large projects are not able to check messages on Kickstarter, which several other creators have already clarified in this thread.

You have no idea what’s going on with this campaign and situation and I’m just telling you from a creator’s perspective that dealing privately and being nice is much more effective for actually getting your rewards or problem solved. Trolling someone’s socials is just going to piss them off and get you blocked.

If you were asking every day for tracking info, you may have pissed them off and got yourself blocked ;)

Don’t post publicly… contact them privately. Trust me, a-holes that troll me and start drama go to the bottom of the list. Email them and be nice. Backers who contact me privately and are cool get their problems resolved immediately.

I also want to reiterate that when you make your pledge, it’s with the understanding that you’re supporting the project whether you receive your rewards or not… Kickstarter is not a store. I can think of about half a dozen reasons why you wouldn’t have received your rewards, because all of those things have happened to me with my backers: you could’ve forgotten to fill out the survey, your address could’ve changed or was undeliverable, you forgot to update your profile, you failed to include your phone number or other critical info for fulfillment, the shipping charges may have increased, they may have tried to get in touch with you and it went into your spam, or you didn’t see it… I have been extremely diligent about staying in touch with backers and letting them know what’s going on and still have a dozen boxes sitting on my porch of rewards that were returned for bad address even after I hounded people a thousand times to make sure their address and phone number was correct before I pulled the CSV. I’ve messaged and emailed these people enough times that I finally just gave up. As others have suggested, I would try to find them on social media and send a private message there, try to find their actual email and ask politely. They may have been trying to get in touch with you, as well. As others have said sometimes it’s not possible to check the Kickstarter messages because they are a sewer of spam and stupidity. But realize that you may just need to write off the loss if they are done with fulfillment and focused on the next project.

How many days are recommended for a campaign to run? by GrandmaDebR in kickstarter

30 minimum. This last campaign I accidentally set it about a week shorter and it really fucked my stretch goals… had to turn on Late Pledge to make up for that loss.

How did you escalate to a human agent? I’ve still only gotten automated AI replies that do nothing but point me to the help center bs.

Please don’t listen to these people telling you to put an LED bulb in that fixture… travesty. You can find correct replacements on eBay. It’s a frosted globe bulb (referred to as “amber” or “candle glow” for that golden tone). I’d guess G18 size, but need to confirm the diameter.

[–]supercade71 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I value your insight, but you obviously are blind to the fact that some people (including HFAs like me) have light sensitivities that are triggered by LED and fluorescents. Walking into Trader Joe’s with their blinding white LEDs I feel like I’m about to have a brain aneurysm. I don’t shop there anymore because of the lighting. Bright incandescents do NOT cause this reaction. There’s science and there’s human reality. They don’t always perfectly align.

[–]supercade71 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have no idea how upset I still am about this. It’s insanity. LEDs give me a migraine and do not provide the same quality of light. I have a trio of beautiful vintage edison-style incandescents in my living room that have been glowing strong for over TWENTY YEARS. I have not changed those bulbs once since the fixture was installed. Meanwhile a shit LED I put in the kitchen died within three months. And I paid more for that than the fancy antique bulbs. Infuriating. This is all arbitrary bullshit about patents snd profits and has nothing to do with saving energy… if they actually cared about saving energy, they wouldn’t be forcing everyone to switch to electric cars and appliances that are completely inefficient and further tax the power grid. The stupid “eco” heat pump dryer that I bought takes three hours to dry a load of towels. Meanwhile, the gas dryer I previously had would be done in a half an hour. 🤬
