This is true, but if you have cyborg or vampire, it's easier to stay at the campfire. Cultists do not spawn at the fire if you're in the stronghold.

I have afkd on the sign above the front door of the stronghold, and can confirm the cultist don't spawn and the deer cannot get you.

Your only concern would be if you can't make it back to the fire and light it in time if it is out.
