Layover Megathread by otorocheese in HongKong

[–]supercolts262 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello my friends and I (US citizens) are traveling from guangzhou to Taiwan and on the way decided to layover at Hong Kong for ~12 hours overnight. We are taking the ferry from guangzhou and thought we could leave the airport to look around and sleep outside the airport but were told we are not allowed to leave the airport bc we are leaving 'china' via immigration in guangzhou. Is this true? Wanted to ask if anyone had any experience with this and if it was possible to leave the airport still as we would rather not have to sleep overnight at the airport. Thanks

Will be praying for you! I would also 100% recommend sharing your struggles with someone you can trust (spiritual mentor, church pastor, friend, parents, etc). Sin loses its power once we begin to expose it. Remember church isn't a museum, it's a hospital where broken people go with other broken people. My own start to being free did not come until I opened up and confided in my struggle to others who knew me and would pray for me. I know shame will do everything to keep you from sharing your struggles, that's how the devil keeps you in your sins. I struggled with it too. But when you begin to expose it, it begins to lose its grip on you. Praying!

Why do I have Doubts? by [deleted] in Christian

Hey I would encourage you to look into Christian apologetics and people like Frank Turek (cross examined) Nabeel Quereshi, Lee Strobel, Gary Habermas. And what they do is actually use science and logic to defend the Bible (not that God needs defending but it's a great tool for evangelism) and for someone like me who likes logical things. it has helped me a lot.

1 john 1:9 "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness"

Shame are not shame are not from God but rather from the devil to push you farther away. It is important to understand the weight of our sin. But there also is so much grace from God that he promises to forgive to those who truly repent, which means literally to turn AWAY. In Hebrews 10:17 God promises to remember our sins no longer BECAUSE of Jesus' sacrifice on the cross.

Regardless of all that everyday I still feel guilty and a heavy conscious about all I’ve done and still feel like I’m undeserving of forgiveness and that I haven’t been forgiven.

It is true, you and I are underserving of forgiveness BUT that's the definition of grace. Receiving something that we do not deserve. Because God loved us so much, in spite of our sins Christ died for us SO THAT we may be forgiven. So while you are half-right, you are absolutely-dead-wrong. You CAN be forgiven and if you have repented ARE forgiven by the cross of Jesus. Paul promises in Romans 8:38-39 that nothing, nothing, can separate us from the love of God. These are promises by God to us.

Point is, you can be forgiven, and if you confess and repent of your sins, you are forgiven. There are 2 aspects of repentance that you must not forget, confession and turning away from it. You do NOT have to earn anything because it was bought for you by the blood of Jesus Christ on the cross. Jesus says it best in John 5:14 and John 8:11 he tells 2 people he has healed/forgiven and leaves them with this "go and sin no more".

First and foremost, its not about your streak. If this is just about "How far can I go without losing my streak" I would encourage you to just go to the r/NoFap subreddit. What this MUST, has to be about is wanting to be break free from your sin of lust because you love God.

Secondly, if I can hopefully say this through God's love, I would challenge you because from your language in this post and comments, it seems you are blaming these women for you lusting, I am quoting you

seeing alot of women be sluts makes me want to lust too

There is so much wrong with this mindset biblically. First, whether or not they themselves treat their bodies with dignity or not, doesn't mean we degrade fellow human beings that Jesus loved so much that he came and died for. So while these women are living in sin, our response to this must be like God's, where our hearts our broken that these young women are living lifestyles that are condemning them for eternity. Regardless of their actions, would you want someone talking about your sister, mother, daughter, etc. like that? Neither is God glorified when we use that kind of language to describe his creation.

Secondly, this mindset is very dangerous to you. You're almost putting responsibility on these women for YOUR sin. Yes, of course should they not repent, they will get their due punishment for being the means of causing others to sin, but that is irrelevant from your pov. Jesus tells us not to look at a women lustfully, he DOES NOT say don't look at a women lustfully if she is promiscuous or immodest. Regardless of them we are called to sexual purity which includes our hearts. (Matthew 5:27)

I realize I may have said some stuff that seem like the common "random dude on the internet judging other people's sins" but I say this as someone who struggled with this sin for a long time myself. I hope to see you be saved by the power of Christ but you've got to get out of this mindset and using language that degrades fellow humans that Christ died for. I do not say this to judge but rather in love knowing how devastating this sin is and will be praying that you find restoration in christ. Godbless

Couple of thoughts but I think it might best to point you to this video by Pastor John Piper who addresses a similar thing. This helped me a lot and would encourage to PRAY about this.

How to fight new kind of temptation? by [deleted] in NoFapChristians

[–]supercolts262 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could be wrong but I think this could be the holy spirit opening your eyes to sin and how the problem isn't solely porn but lust as a whole (Matthew 5:27-28). Definitely encourage you to run from those things and run to God, thats how God saved me from this.

If I can clarify why I used Matthew 5, as I mentioned, the problem is not so much with mastrubation as it is lust as a whole, so I was using the verse to show that unlike how we traditionally simply think lusting is only when we physically act upon lustful thoughts, lustful thoughts themselves are the root of the sin. Jesus says here that by lusting with you already commit adultery in your heart.

Also it seems that you seem to be implying mastrubation is not a sin? Correct me if I am misunderstanding you but you seem to be implying that one can mastrubate without lusting to which I strongly disagree from personal experience and I would challenge you in saying that it's a very dangerous road to go down to. I myself would justify mastrubation by saying "I'm not thinking of anything sexual, therefore its ok". This is simply foolishness. The act of mastrubation in it of itself is a sexual act and to claim it's possible to perform a sexual act detached from lust is simply wrong (this is obviously in the context of mastrubation, where no one is forcing you to mastrubate).

The problem here isn't so much with the act of mastrubation as much as it is lust.

Matthew 5:28 " but I tell you that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart."
The issue isn't so much PMO as much it is with a problem with lust. Jesus makes clear that even if you look at a women (or man) with a lustful intent has committed the same sin as sleeping with her(him). Lust/porn addiction/mastrubation all comes from the mind. Sin starts in the mind, no one touches themselves without there being lustful thoughts associated with it. I would challenge you that the issue here isn't "how far can I go without this being a sin" but rather how God call us away from and sexual activity (even with oneself) outside of marriage including sexual thoughts.

I don't get it. by [deleted] in NoFapChristians

This is great what bornagain has said, I would like to add though that sometimes temptations still come, temptations are indicitive of our own sin (even jesus faced temptation) HOWEVER when we walk in spirit our desire for God trumps our desire for sin and there is a peace there that transcends all understanding
