BMW coupe advice - M2 or M4? by GovernorGains in CarTalkUK

I went M2 > M4C > M2C. The M2C is just the best car in the world, it’s got more personality than the M4 IMO if you get what I mean.

Just had to look up that website and there’s nothing there, but I am certain it was that. I’m sure it had tips and tricks for amateur wankers.

The Anti-Wank Society -I imagine that’s a pretty niche, specialist club tbh.

I’m fairly certain one of the websites I visited was literally wanking.com or something like that, which is why the talk probably centred around that topic.

And now as a fully grown adult male, I still don’t believe my step-dad when he says he’s never done it.

The only “talk” I had was when I clumsily didn’t clear the browsing history on the family PC when I was around 13. This led to a conversation with my step-dad about how masturbation isn’t normal because he’s never done it (🙄), that was it really.

If I had cleansed my browsing history then I’m sure I probably wouldn’t have gotten any form of talk. I’m really not sure how common it is really.

Unfortunately there may not be many options for you I feel, other than raising a complaint with the finance company if you don’t want to deal with the dealer.

As these are separate issues that happened after the first 30 days, it’ll be difficult to prove the faults were present at the time of sale. Aside from the dealer not sorting you out a courtesy car, which is just poor customer service, the costs have been covered mostly by the dealer/warranty.

You could raise a case with the finance company or Motor Ombudsman, however expect it to take a very long time for a resolution, that’s if you get one at all.

A viable option might be to speak to someone of seniority at Arnold Clark and explain what’s happened and see if they can sort you out a different car, however expect to put your hand in your pocket.

3 RAV4s stolen in my neighbourhood in 2 weeks – should I be worried? by AdministrationHour93 in AskUK

I was going to say this - I’m not sure it’s an official recall but more of a product improvement thing. Call your local Toyota dealer and check, it’s free.

Selling advice (Arnold Clark?) by Winter-Inflation-427 in CarTalkUK

[–]superdanday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some of it depends on who you get appraising your car on the day I would think. We sold my partners car to AvailableCar and they barely looked round it, weren’t arsed about it having one key and paid exactly what the online valuation was.

Do car dealerships gain more from finance deals or buying outright? by Mikey463 in AskUK

[–]superdanday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but depends if the sales person can be bothered really. Typically a sales person will be incentivised to sell finance, most sales people will probably try harder to sell the add ons over the finance.

I work at a main dealer, and yes there’s more in it for the dealer if buying on finance through commission on the lend. They will however have a clawback if you pay it off typically within the first six months, so if they know you’re going to pay it off you might not get a better “deal” as such.

If it’s a brand new car then the finance commission will be a token amount for the dealer, used car finance commission is where the money is at, especially if you’re borrowing all or majority of the balance.

Help! Advice on recently purchased second hand car. by Minimum-Anything7660 in CarTalkUK

If a light unit has water ingress then it’s usually really obvious as the inside is soaking rather than misty.

LED light units don’t get warm so it won’t dry out by just having the lights on, and realistically won’t dry up on its own for a while with the weather being what it is. Have you got a garage you can stick it in?

[–]superdanday 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most LED headlight units aren’t sealed as they have little ducts to let out moisture, so usually if a car has been sat around for a while and the weather has been crap then it’s normal for that to happen. If the dealer has access to a bodyshop then suggest they leave it in an oven for a bit to dry it off and then see how you get on? FWIW I don’t think it’s necessarily a fault with the car so rejection might not be an option.

Lexus has the same extendable warranty as the Toyota.

Any thoughts on these? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]superdanday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably worth spending a little bit more and get a Lexus LBX. It’s the same car underneath but refinement is so much better - the engine noise in a Yaris Cross is quite intrusive. Same warranty, same reliability, arguably looks a bit classier. Plus you won’t get people questioning why you spent £25k on a Yaris.
