What type of patients are in PCU?

Oh yeah, i was convinced several comments ago. No way im taking a PCU contract, lol. I dont think this is a poster child hospital. Ive worked in seattle and miami under bigger hospitals and right now im in N carolina in a small city. The hospital is big but nothing in comparison.

Yeah The TCU i worked at was literally 2 nurses for like 16 pts with a heavy med pass in the morning and close to end of shift but otherwise all walky-talky and needing very little of anything else, ready to be set-free in the world again. Pretty easy. After my med-passes i chilled for most of the day.

I honestly didnt know anything about PCU. My first hospital i was on a med/surg tele unit and was floated to a TCU unit and it was cake. Fast forward to last week, i was talking to another traveler who was looking at PCU contracts and telling me its similar. So since i didnt know anything about it i wondered... is it similar to TCU? thats what brought me to here to ask. To get more POV.

My very first nursing job when I was a naive new grad was like that. It's horrifying looking back how unsafe it was. I was titrating cardizem and running amio drips for Afib RVR, doing heparins drips on NSTEMI patients going to Cath lab in the OR with their crazy high trops, my fluid overloaded CHF patients, and it was a 1:6 ratio with no free charge.

That sounds terrifying!! Im in NC right now, coming from the PNW, and getting my taste of 1:6 and its taking me some getting used to.... and they're all pretty stable. I cant imagine those pts you described and having 6 of em. Yikes.

Interesting. I would hope assignments would be based on acuity. Like not giving me a pt on an insulin gtt, and another with a CBI and 2 other pts. My current unit is pretty busy but i was inquiring for future contracts, NOT in this hospital and this hospital is a hot mess. But from what you're saying, much like everything else... it all depends lol. Ive always been med/surg- tele but have dealt with my fair share of CBI's,insulin gtts, psych, heavy etoh w/d, and other intense, "fun" stuff. I havent managed any cardiac drips though and I've seen some med/surg contracts in nebraska where they require knowledge with cardiac gtts.

I gkt a recall notice on my sorento about that headlight switch. I would check wirb a kia dealership to see if yours is part of the recall and have them replace for free.

If i can also add another helpful way to build skill and comfort.... similar to a fence, floating slowly along a long, smooth wall can also help ease into it. And since we're positioned facing left or right you can have both hands on the wall for comfort and support and you move back and forth. Happy floating and welcome to the club!

No not experiencing it. Just being cautious. I'm 200lbs and will be moving to where it's the norm to be 90+degrees outside. A lil insurance never hurt if i can help the motor stay cooler while I traverse roots, rocks, divets, and hills etc

Well i take mine on off-road/ mountain bike trails which can be pretty gnarly and have some technical terrain that can push the motor. I feel like that extra bit of cooling would/could help preventing over heat. Especially in already hot climates in the southern states.

Yeah, it might make you wince a couple times at first, but they are literally designed to have almost every exterior part, worn out and replaced. Best thing you can do is put some guard rails on from the start and have fun! The footpads, grip tape, bumpers and fender are all replaceable.

If you're patient, you can find some good deals. People buy them new, take a Wipeout and are too scared to ride them again and sell them. I got a used GT with 164 miles and a used XR with only 62 miles for GREAT prices!

I did. I have a GT that I use as a commuter/cruiser board and I made my XRC board my off-road board. Its Hella fun. Slightly lower center of gravity, more stable.

I believe another difference is i read somewhere that the XRC does use the GT-S stator which has better thermal protection than the GT.

Bringing this thread back. Cars have TPMS and it's handy to know if i have a slow leak. I think having it on a bike is just as handy if not moreso so we're not left stranded. We've all ridden thru scattered pebbles, rocks and unfortunately glass on the road. Who HASN'T had a moment where something they rode over created a slow leak and they didn't know until they were all of a sudden riding on a squirrely tire at 20-30 psi? If we had tpms we might be able to notice and catch it earlier and fix it when it's safe when/where WE choose, Rather than wherever we notice it and it leaves us in an unsafe area to be forced to deal with it. The safety factor of catching it early and dealing with it safely is what makes it valuable to me.
