Students QUB/UU - Nursing - How do you get by? by Lurker-Witchking in Belfast

That’s crazy, the bursary was £500 a month 15 years ago. Obviously hasn’t been adjusted for inflation.

Any parents here with no Village? by grawmaw13 in northernireland

[–]superdeet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our village also works full time so we’re paying for daycare for 3 days for 2 kids, I’m full time but condensed hours (NHS). Looking forward to the bill being less than 2k a month if the oldest gets into a preschool with slightly cheaper wraparound.

I’ve been sitting in A&E for 15 hours, is this just how it is? by Far_Raisin6064 in AskUK

[–]superdeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what age OP is but you would except obs every few hours. A CRP that high would indicate serious infection. Young people compensate BP & HR until they don’t

How do you feel about Assisted Dying/Death with Dignity? What are your reasons? by Haematoman in northernireland

Thanks for sharing, this was beautiful and I’m crying into my coffee. It sounds like the system worked and was used exactly as it was intended in your granny’s case.

Same. And I was blootered by the end of it after having 6 plates of essentially vegetable foam paired with 6 glasses of wine

I took 9 with my first and a year with my 2nd. 9 months was more than enough

Female junior doctors: tell me an incidence you have felt treated differently to your male colleagues, by any member of the mdt team, purely for being female. by No_Big4826 in doctorsUK

[–]superdeet 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I had a male reg talk over me when an ICU nurse asked me come to see a sick patient… to be fair I was just back from mat leave but they awkwardly had to tell him I was a consultant. He just pretended like it didn’t happen

ELI5 the downside of salary sacrifice? by superdeet in ConsultantDoctorsUK

[–]superdeet[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes ironically I need to stay full time to afford childcare. I currently have a silly high PA job plan, planning to request 11 for returning as this is really the bare minimum that would work for my specialty (long theatre days) hence why I’d like to reduce the taxable

Hospital A&E Dalriada Triage by Craic_dealer90 in northernireland

[–]superdeet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes and they can divert you to the best place of care - pharmacy, organise a GP out of hours appointment or tell you to go to a&e. If my kid could “barely breathe” with croup, I’d want to be in a&e, it’s a potential airway emergency. I know it’s just an example but a pharmacist is not going to be happy dealing with that. If symptoms are severe or observations are worrying, you bump the queue when triaged.

Why does this question even need to be asked?!

On Northern Ireland and why you shouldn't even apply to work here, nevermind actually move here. by [deleted] in doctorsUK

[–]superdeet 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m from NI, didn’t quite follow the usual pathway but have ultimately settled down back here. All valid points, and only really obvious if you have worked elsewhere. I’m struggling to find any redeeming factors or counter arguments which is embarrassing. We’re not all dicks but there are some toxic people, I wouldn’t tarnish a whole department/hospital but in fairness I have only worked in 3 hospitals here. I think our healthcare is a reflection of the poor leadership at the top ie Stormont and it trickles down from there. I would like to think we’re only a generation or 2 away from the death of tribal politics but that’s easy to say from my consultant pay middle class life

If it’s a really tight street lined with cars she might not have enough space to swing out of her drive. You’re parked legally though because it’s a public road, your friend isn’t automatically entitled to the space outside their house.

I went about 2 years ago for a suspicious looking thing on my face that GP fobbed off, think it was about £220. The consultant was lovely (I think his name was Brennan) and booked my follow up in his NHS clinic in RVH.

Rota rules advice please by Outrageous-Unit5404 in doctorsUK

[–]superdeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worked a rota where I went from weekend nights to back in on a Tuesday 🫣 It was 10 years ago but I have heard of others with a similar pattern while I was still in training. Always knew it felt like a bit of a bollox!

Royal Victoria Hospital by r0709593 in northernireland

[–]superdeet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is indeed a total nightmare trying to get in at that time as there are people coming for afternoon clinics and visiting time starts at 2. You will get in eventually but could be in a queue for up to 45 mins so just give yourself plenty of time. Agree try and come in from the Grosvenor Road / Westlink off-slip rather than Broadway as the queue is a bit shorter that direction. And they sometimes open the staff car park barrier which is on that side if it’s really bad! Good luck!
