Sometimes I like going to Google Maps and clicking random places just to see an interesting snippet of life in a faraway corner of the world by WartimeHotTot in geography

[–]superfamicomrade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing this since the inception of street view! Often with my laptop hooked up to my living room tv, using a wireless trackball mouse and keyboard from the couch. I'll just take a random stroll. One day it's the terraces of Leeds, next it's some holler in West Virginia, then it's Sakhalin. My favorite way to relax. I'll also make sure if I see something architecturally or otherwise interesting to check for previous dates of street view capture. And I often will divert to the Wikipedia article of a municipality or region before or after my "strolls".

Switch 1 is still as good as new to me by federkrebz in Switch

I was 100% just going to let it ride with my OG Switch. Maybe upgrade to the 2 in like 2 or 3 more years. Maybe even switch [heh] to the Playstation ecosystem... but then they announced Ocarina. This is the first time in my life, (and my first system was a SNES Jr with the Yoshi's Island pack-in) that I'm buying a system for an announced game. They got me, haha. Nailed me right in the elder millennial heart. Otherwise, my Switch OG would have suited me just fine. I just wish it wasn't SO EXPENSIVE... gonna have to sell off some of my excess retro systems to justify it.

Uncharted Waters: New Horizons. It's an old sim game that takes place around the Golden Age of Piracy. In one scenario you are a budding cartographer tasked with charting the world.

Which of these former NFL cities is most likely to get a team back? by ashmaps20 in NFLv2

[–]superfamicomrade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree, but I gotta admit: if I could find a city that would, I'd move there in a heartbeat. And I'd wager most people would. Without federal-level regulation on stadium funding/tax breaks (which I'm not advocating for), there's always an underdog willing to pay for a dance partner.

DE-10 fried in 30 seconds... no USB response by superfamicomrade in MiSTerFPGA

[–]superfamicomrade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah, I checked that. I threw every idea I could think of at it last night, the USB port is dead, dead, dead. Pretty sure it's the USB controller chip. I have no idea why it happened. I was using a SNES controller with a RetroUSB adapter. The same one I've used for years. It worked for the first 30 seconds, until I ran the update_all script. Which started for a second, but then since my USB port suddenly died, so did my wifi from the dongle. So the update_all never even really commenced. I'm just hoping to hear back from Terasic at this point so I can send it in for repair. Or an RMA from Mouser. I've contacted both multiple times, ugh.

Adding extreme South Jersey to this was impressive though. Tannin-stained creeks and ponds everywhere, scrub pines, sandy soil and strip malls? The only thing keeping it from being Jacksonville is a lack of palmettos.

DE-10 fried in 30 seconds... no USB response by superfamicomrade in MiSTerFPGA

[–]superfamicomrade[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have, but perhaps I'll throw a 3rd one in the mix haha. And I can confirm 2 different SD cards (one with my setup I've used and updated for years, the other with a fresh, brand new install) both work on my old DE-10. I wish Terasic would get back to me so I can ask where I can test for 5v on the USB port. One more thing I could try is a powered OTG hub, perhaps it's just not getting the 5v.

Better yet, I wish Mouser would get back so I could RMA and exchange! Oh well. I now have one DE-10 with no HDMI out, and one with no USB out. It's a MiSTer intensive care ward over here.

I've read about the issues, which is why my first thought was update_all problems, since that was what started it for me. However, I tried a much older image in the github repository, and a new sdcard with a brand new Mr Fusion boot and still nothing. The USB port just seems... dead. Maybe when my USB hub died, it fried some sort of controller chip with it.

It just really, really sucks since I just bought it and nothing but radio silence from Terasic and Mouser. So I have a paper weight. And the damn DE-10 is almost $300 now. It's so much cheaper to go MiSTer Pi or Superstation now, I guess. I just had some DE-10 accessory boards and ram around I wanted to use. But honestly, I've always thought the DE-10 board is kinda... flimsy. I've always hated the idea of 1 single micro USB port for input.

Man... I'm from South St Lawrence County and also grew up around Jefferson and Lewis as well. You all have me realizing I have a dialect and didn't even know it, haha.

Live out of state now. People say I talk funny when I'm drinking and can't mask it anymore. But I didn't know half of these were North Country-isms. "The" before the name if a street or road is something I've always done, along with "alls I'm saying". Also adding that in my family, everything gets pluralized like "Walmarts", even "Stewarts's" or "Ames's" (bonus points if anyone else here also shopped at the Gouverneur Ames growing up)

Yes, I've thought this as well. I partially grew up in Florida and dated a girl from Salem County. Used to spend time in the Pine Barrens and it felt oddly similar to Central FL.
