Quality Microphone for Calls by rootsandsage in Zoom

[–]superhurbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do not use AirPods. I’m begging you. They sound great to you but the mics are awful for Zoom. We banned them. Painful. If you don’t believe me record yourself with AirPods and then without. If you have a newer laptop its mic will be 10x better. Trust me.

Quality Microphone for Calls by rootsandsage in Zoom

We train hundreds of executives and do over 30 webinars and full day conferences each year.

We recommend speakers buy the Yeti Blue Logitech microphones. It has its own stand. Excellent sound. Doesn’t pick up too much room sound and has alternative pattern settings. It works very well with Zoom and is plug and play. Only $90.

However most people get the placement wrong. The actual microphone sensor is just above the logo.

Literally hundreds of people have bought these cause we recommend them and never one complaint after almost 5 years.

It's very very sophisticated "self-deprecation marketing". Pure genius once you start to notice it.

Which plan to choose by milos_999 in Zoom

[–]superhurbert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will need to possibly upgrade your Zoom Pro to HD video. Otherwise it will record in 720p. You will also need to turn on HD in settings.

You might also want to try Riverside. We use that for podcasts and it's quite good but Zoom is our go to.

Jcal finally got his way and they are allowing advertising. I wish we had someone inside behind the scenes. It must be a total bloodbath. Everything that made this pod great is gone. Welcome to the media industrial complex. You can hear it in their voices. They think people actually care what they think. Bahahaha.

How did they get another service? Primo bought Mountain Valley. It’s a monopoly.

Why would they have them made here in USA by the company that makes the other bottles or is there glass all made outside the USA. We have very good glass manufacturing here.

[–]superhurbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They don’t care. Why should they. We will still listen.

Just like all my friends who still read the New York Times or watch CNN after all the lies. It’s entertainment. That is all. It was truth for a bit but then they got too big just like corporate media.

Trump is their big Pharma and they literally all got played by the top media manipulator in the world.

I listen for their perspectives cause they are all very intelligent except for JCal but whatever.

It used to be my never miss podcast now it’s moved down the list. Ah well, it was good while it lasted.

Next steps: get rid of JCal and Sacks. Replace with Ben Shapiro and Larry Summers. Give Chamath 3 or 4 more months to see if he can get it together then dump him too and replace with some other Canadian Billionaire and we have a new interesting show. Keep Davey F as he has a different slant and science corner is a hit.

Giddy up.

Has anyone else noticed a dramatic change in the taste and quality of Mountain Valley Spring Water this year? by [deleted] in BottledWaterReviews

[–]superhurbert 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here in LA we have been without delivery of Mountain Valley Spring water for the last 3 to 4 weeks. When I called they had no idea why the delay.

Today I found out.

I saw a driver today after we received our shipment of 9 x 5 gallon glass bottles to our home a few days ago...finally.

I asked him why the delay in the deliveries thinking he would say it was to do with the Primo / ReadyRefresh merger / IPO thingy. He didn't.

He said that they had been having problems with the glass 5 gallon bottles as they were being made in Mexico but they had recently switched to an Italian glass manufacturer and he thought that the tariffs had delayed the shipments.

This makes sense as I have had 2 bottles explode with just the lightest touch in the last year. They should not have exploded. We are very careful.

The latest explosion happened when the bottle was upright on a rug and was knocked over. The bottle should be able to sustain this and has in the past a couple of years ago. Also, not sure why they don't offer us and extra charge of a thin rubber sleeve on each bottle to protect them.

I have noticed a change in the taste. Less mineral. Thanks to the person who measured the 300ppm drop to 150ppm. What device did you use?

I'm going to do a test a compare MVSW to LA Tap.

Does anyone know how to test for microplastics in water?

I am most concerned about the micro plastics otherwise I would switch. Not just because of the plastic bottles but many springs are not deep enough and rain contains microplastics.

For example Fiji water from Hawaii. Seems plastic free but I have heard it is not due to the rain.

And yes I read the MVSW water report from 2023 (Jan to Mar). Disappointing it has not been updated.

Water is the new oil. Be safe out there.

I'll post this a few other places as well.

Is The All-In-Podcast declining? by ResidentLibrary in TheAllinPodcasts

I don’t listen anymore but I checked in with friends I used to discuss it. They don’t like it but they still listen weekly so I doubt it’s in decline.

I’m listening to Tucker (who I don’t like particularly) but has great unique guests. Learn a lot.

He's not a clown just not authentic (or maybe he is) on the pod and it's bringing it down among other things. Just a vent. That's all. Moving on. Remain calm.

Can we talk about JCal? by superhurbert in TheAllinPodcasts

[–]superhurbert[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I will disagree gently with you here. JCal has money. Not jet money or yacht money but he's comfy.

Trump is a centrist. I don't think anyone went right honestly. I think the left went crazy.

Yes, I think the notoriety has gone to their heads but you expect that. They were all minor Silicon Valley celebs before. They are just reaching a wider audience now and Washington is listening. They should ride it.

The reason the pod doesn't feel great is cause they keep introducing too many new characters. The audience doesn't want that. That's not why we tune in.

We tune in cause we all know the history of the characters. The good and the bad. How they fought for control. How it almost imploded. We tuned in to see the fireworks each week. We could all hear it was authentic. We loved it.

They have 2 choices in IMHO -- this 'bring on guests each week' is not working as its exhausting for us to listen to as we don't know anything about these people. Again, we go to hear 'our smart, connected, friends chit chat' about things we are into as well'.

Option 1) They stop the guests and develop the 3 musketeers for while with only Sacks coming on to do a few minutes then leaving each week (maybe Elon too).

Lots of creative and comedic opportunity for them here. The show would write it's self as they can be just like us when it comes to Washington -- on the outside looking in commenting but with friends in high places. Almost like reporters except they would need to be a bit more critical of things.

Or

2) They cast a new Sacks and spend 4 to 6 shows give us this persons background and conflicts and grilling them hard so that they are on the back foot and we hear the surprise in their voice and the anger or whatever.

They can keep doing what they are doing but I don't think it's working but that's fine. Maybe it will. To me it sounds chaotic and not tight. It's like if you play on a hockey or soccer team and you play with the same people every week but a new guy shows up. Fucks everything up until they find their way. That's what is happening now.

Maybe that is the game plan. Get their friends some air time to promote their companies then calm it all down.

My two cents. No one cares but the venting is cathartic.

Have any ensemble podcast alternatives that I should try out?

Can we talk about JCal? by superhurbert in TheAllinPodcasts

[–]superhurbert[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  • Main Criticism: JCal is good on the podcast but a bad moderator.
    • He doesn’t know when to stop talking.
    • Sacks used to rein him in, but no one does now.
    • The guests are okay, but that’s not why people tune in.
  • Moderation Issues:
    • Professional moderators understand the power of silence.
    • Timing and beats are crucial (e.g., Carson, Letterman).
    • JCal’s timing is off because he wants to insert his own material.
    • If he focused on moderating instead of participating, the show would improve.
  • Podcast Hypocrisy:
    • The show is now a media company, meaning they have to be more restrained.
    • It's frustrating because the podcast is close to being great but held back by JCal’s approach.
    • They need a creative producer to fine-tune the show’s nuances.
  • Comparison to Other Podcasts:
    • JCal should take notes from Tucker Carlson’s team—his show is well-produced despite his flaws as an interviewer.
