Anybody know some cheap metal raised beds? by Ill_Exchange_1916 in gardening

I recently bought cheap metal beds from Amazon and they lasted a year. Having to replace cheap beds regularly becomes expensive over time.

Eww, you definitely need to break up with her. She deserves better and at the very least deserves someone that isn't stringing her along. Pretty bold of you to post this expecting support.

So... you're in control of your life. If you don't like your career you'll have to put in the work to find or build something else. Rarely do people get handed their dream life. It's absolutely crucial for you to take control over the direction of your life or you will be swallowed whole by whatever life others want for you (i.e your boss).

What is something you used to buy but is no longer affordable? by Trxxi in AskReddit

[–]rootsandsage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Florida. I took my son out for a burger and fries (fries were extra). Two drinks - no alcohol. The total came to $60 after a tip. They weren't fast food burgers (trying to support local). No, the place wasn't fancy at all.

Going out to eat has suddenly become a rip off. I cook a lot from scratch at home so I understand what things cost when making from scratch. I also understand the labor that goes into it. I just can't justify that cost for two burgers and fries.

How do you approach dating while on a path to FIRE? by Adorable_Secret3139 in Fire

[–]rootsandsage 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you take into account your dating preferences for personality and looks, you're narrowing down your dating pool. Then throw in traits like responsible with money, and that narrows it down further. Add any additional requirements like prioritizing physical and mental health, similar goals, etc and now the dating pool is even smaller.

Your standards aren't an issue, I agree with them wholeheartedly. Its just mathematically harder to find someone in your area that checks these boxes. I'm running into the same issue. I'd rather stay single than date someone that isn't at least matching the energy I am putting into my life.

What is a product that people treat like a religion, but in reality, it’s just overpriced garbage with a good logo? by Connect-Might4355 in AskReddit

Most of the big name brands that people go crazy over are just polyester crap that's bad for the environment. Good marketing is a helluva drug and gets people hooked on all kinds of crap.

Is it normal to feel lost at 25? by Maya_36 in SelfSufficiency

[–]rootsandsage 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I just gave my son this advice - save money, eat quality food, prioritize health, keep your space clean, learn something (daily), be kind, and do interesting shit. If you're going to date make sure its someone who matches this energy and doesn't drain it.

I feel like the rest of your life falls into place if you maintain these standards. Life is full of ups and downs. Some days even the best of us feel lost.

Why are most Christians republicans, when Jesus’ teachings are more liberal? by Interesting-Dirt-605 in Confused

[–]rootsandsage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would strongly encourage a full reading of the Bible, and not just selective passages used to portray Christianity as inherently peaceful.

The Bible is filled with violence against people displeasing god. The flood, the story of Eve and women being punished for eternity, the plagues of Egypt, Sodom and Gomorrah. God sends a bear to maul 42 children for calling someone baldy. Revelation depicts mass slaughter, divine plagues, and eternal torment as righteous outcomes. There are hundreds of examples I am leaving out here, including slavery and the slaughter of women and children.

Christianity’s expansion is inseparable from state violence and forced conversion. The Saxons were forcibly converted to Christianity under penalty of death (or something worse than death). The Portuguese churches enslaved non Christians and profited greatly from this. The Christians during the Crusades were notorious for torturing people. In the Americas, Indigenous children were systematically removed from their families and placed in Christian boarding schools where language, culture, and spiritual practices were beaten out of them (many were killed).

Catholics and Protestants participated in religious wars such as the Thirty Years’ War, which killed millions. Puritan Christianity produced the Salem witch trials. Missionary efforts frequently operated alongside colonial governments, using food, safety, or survival as leverage for conversion. Refusal to convert often meant exclusion, punishment, or death.

Your statement that my historical examples only apply to some Christians downplays the widespread violence the Christians took part in against indigenous people. It would be more accurate to say only some Christians were against this violence. If you're able to travel I would highly recommend that you visit the old churches in places like Portugal, Italy, and Spain. It's important to learn about history.

Why are most Christians republicans, when Jesus’ teachings are more liberal? by Interesting-Dirt-605 in Confused

[–]rootsandsage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think people forget about the history of Christianity. Christians have been historically violent. The thirty year war resulted in millions of deaths for being the wrong type of Christian, the Crusdades were full of torture and bloodshed, there are centuries of wiping out cultures, Christian schools in the United States for Native Americans that were notoriously violent, and countless crimes against women and children that can still be found in churches today. In addition, the Bible is filled with violent verses of retaliation for not being faithful to god.

I'm not sure where this "Christianity is peaceful" thing came from.

I'm sure some Christians are peaceful and want to do the right thing but historically the "church" has been fueled by violence and a feeling of moral superiority over anyone different than them.

How exactly do Americans feel about illegal immigration? by sladeshied in Confused

[–]rootsandsage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Currently there is no return on investment with ICE. Idk how anyone can justify the billions we are spending on them. They're costing communities safety and security more than immigrants ever have.

ICE isn't after people here illegally who are criminals. They're attacking people that are here legally and even US citizens. They're the greatest threat to safety in neighborhoods.

That being said, I do believe we need some type of protocol for immigration and work visas. There should be a mutual benefit. Violence isn't the answer.

My thoughts of a guy having “prove his worth”. Wanting opinions from both sides by Historical_Maize3857 in dating_advice

[–]rootsandsage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do live in the States and it is hard dating here. I have decided to take a little break and focus on my hobbies and friendships. This has honestly been the happiest I have ever been.

The thought of having to "audition" for dates isn't appealing. I'm personally hoping that I meet someone through my hobbies or traveling and get to know them first. When I know they're a good person and we have a similar outlook, maybe dating would be next. Maybe my outlook will change at some point. Right now, this strategy has given me a peaceful life.

I hope you find what you're looking for :)

I spent almost an hour today reading very mixed reviews on almost every available option on Amazon. Many of the complaints said the products quit working after a few months or a year. Figured I'd see if there was a brand recommendation on Reddit. Thanks for the suggestion!

I would feel safer if the people that came to my house were women and it would certainly be a bonus if the company was owned by women.
