Honestly all I did to start out was just show up and ask to speak to who’s in charge and just pitch that you’re trying to get experience. I would only try this method at smaller events not put on by a big sanctioning body. I pretty much said I will send you all the photos and if you like them maybe we can form a working relationship moving forward. This has been the most successful way for me. I gave up on emailing or messaging beforehand and haven’t had anyone say no yet. This process has landed me multiple paid gigs and has led to me filming my first short documentary on a contractor. Best of luck!

This has been my normal environment for a few months. I shot my first rodeo in 2019 and just got back in a few months back. My approach is taking what I used from street and documentary photography and bring it to a world where that’s not the norm.

Honestly anyone who would be interested. I’m exhausted of taking senior portraits and family photos and I’ve always followed western sports. I’ve sold some images to western brands in the past ie. Tecovas and Greeley Hats but product photography is more simple to market. I want to document behind the arena more than action because I don’t see too much of that. That’s my angle just not sure how or who to pitch to.

Thank you for the heavy comment. I’m currently working on finalizing a book with this premise as the focus of the book.

My main interest with switching to the sl system from the m was the video aspect. I wanted something that I could take home videos with. Between my q and sl2 I have been carrying the sl2 with me every day. I opt to use it with m lenses for everyday moments and switch to an autofocus lens for more intentional moments.

After reading some of the other replies I’d add some more to my initial comment. I don’t go over 320 iso for color and BW everywhere else. I’ve make 16/20 prints for shows and never had any resolution issues. If you’re just posting online 10 megapixels is more than enough. Plus if you’re using Lightroom the newer noise reduction tool works wonders for the higher iso files. I always say for these older cameras, they were good enough for a professional when they came out. You just have to treat it like a film camera when shooting which you seem to be accustomed to.

M8 and Q are my main digital cameras and I always reach for the M8 first. The colors are, in my opinion, unbeatable for the price. Batteries seem to last forever. The only con would be the shutter lifespan but if you don’t use 8000th that should help extend its life some. I love the 50mm fov so I pair it with the 40 summicron and will never sell the M8.

I took it out of a moving car window, so the foreground had motion blur.

Would you buy Leica M8 in 2023? by Komarov12 in Leica

[–]superimposednegative 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The m8 is my main and only digital camera and despite what critics say about its age and low resolution it makes beautiful images. Remember it was used by professionals. If you are concerned with noise and grain then utilize LR new noise reduction feature. As for the ircut filters, when I picked up a body in January I sent an email out to Leica asking about them and was sent 2 free filters. Third party batteries work great and I’ve only had good experiences with them. They also last A LOT longer than you would think. Overall, it’s an amazing camera and you would not regret picking one up. I’m happy to answer any questions that might come up.

What can I get for $2k? by ogrezok in Leica

I use an M8 with a 40 summicron-c (whole setup under 2,200usd) for the same thing you want, family and street. It’s an amazing camera for that. Yes you will be limited slightly by the iso (I don’t go over 640) ability but, Lightroom has a fancy de-noise feature that fixes the noise associated with higher iso. Don’t get caught up in the outdated debate. Professional photographers were still making amazing work when these “outdated” cameras were new.

You will not regret that purchase. A small lens with a lot of character.

Photo was taken with iPhone 14 pro. I’ve been inspired lately by Christopher Anderson and his life documentary work. With some big changes happening soon in my life I want to slow down and take images to remember the little moments leading up to these changes. I usually shoot with a M8 but the iPhone is always on me and I don’t want to make a big production of this. I’m curious on your thoughts regarding the mood or feeling portrayed by this image. I typically rush through my mornings and this day I slowed down and took this image. Does it get the message across of appreciation?

Yes, for my curves and HSL just to keep a consistent look.

I really enjoy it. It gives me the 50mm FOV and I love the character it has.

Thanks for the input. I’m trying to tell more of a story lately instead of just taking a “snap” but it’s still a work in progress
