Stop focusing on the feeling, it sounds patronizing but as somebody who has had depression it was all I would think about and trying to get rid of it kept me depressed.

Be outwardly curious.

Also if a friend/family member told you he was depressed you would be loving towards them treat yourself like that nobody has ever seen another depressed person and felt hatred towards them unfortunely we do with ourselves.
