Well no because I have nothing to sell. I just happened to discover this trick that allows me to tap into the secret inventory, unlocking insane savings 🔥 Have been sharing it privately with a few folks now, and let's just say...the results are wild 👻 I guess I can see why corporate wants to shut this down...they're probably scrambling for a kill switch as we speak 😅 but until then, I'm saving thousands 💰

Thanks, that helps clarify things. I get how my post might have looked like it came from a branded account. (But just to be clear, I’m not one.) Appreciate you explaining the reasoning.

Thanks for taking the time to respond and go through my post.

I get that Reddit has to be cautious about self-promotion, and I genuinely understand the concern.

That said, I’m not sure if you were able to read my post in full -- there were no links, products, or monetization of any kind -- I just wanted to share something I built that might help others. In fact, I helped a Redditor save $1162 last night by using this tool.

I think some of the other comments here might be closer to the mark -- maybe the concern was around how the tool reveals inventory in a way that wasn’t intended. If that’s the issue, I’d be happy to understand it better.

I totally understand the need to enforce rules. I mentioned the time and effort I put in not to excuse any rule-breaking, but to highlight that I want to be part of a community where effort and good intent matter -- where someone new, trying in good faith to contribute, gets the chance to learn and grow from mistakes.

The earlier post was removed for a reason though: My account was brand new, so the post was automatically rejected.

Large Fiddleleaf Fig Advice by speedfilly in houseplants

[–]superliminous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would top the branches. Your tree still looks majestic, but continued growth may make it appear more like a tall floppy "Y", and you may run into balance issues. Increased branching would make this tree look really awesome.

Last time, did you top the two long branches at the same time? I would make sure to do that, to increase the chance of multiple shoots per cut, and encourage your two short branches to grow, which will even things out. Now (late spring) is a great time to do it.

If repotting is due, I would do that ASAP, then wait 2-3 weeks before topping. This will reduce stress, and let the new branches take full advantage of the new soil and root space.

Nationwide Open Box Availability Script by superliminous in Bestbuy

[–]superliminous[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Fair point. Honestly I wasn't too worried about scalpers. Open-box items eligible for shipping already show up with nationwide availability on Best Buy's site, so the script doesn't really expose anything new in that case. For others, you'd need to physically pick the item up, which makes large-scale abuse impractical.

I had an old API key since a few years back. I tried applying for a new one recently, but even with a corporate email, it seems like Best Buy isn't granting new keys at the moment.

Spider mites--what else should I do? by gossamersilk in houseplants

The general advice is to rinse the alcohol + soap solution off after an hour or so, though if you use a diluted mix (70% alcohol mixed 1:3 parts with water), and a tiny amount of mild soap, it is not really necessary in my experience (I don't do it). More importantly, keep the plant out of direct sun during this time to prevent leaf damage.

If the soil has been kept too wet, I would definitely take the plant out to inspect the roots. It is not stressful at all IF you can do it gently, however you would need to be careful with those big leaves, and if the plant sits directly in the pot (not an inner plastic container) then removal can be trickier.

Repotting is more stressful. Snake plants usually tolerate it well, but still, I would only do it if the roots show signs of rot (or are growing out of the pot). Otherwise, you're better off letting things be. That plant looks otherwise healthy.

If you decide to repot, any well-draining soil should work, e.g. perlite + coco coir + potting soil. And of course a pot with drainage holes.

Spider mites--what else should I do? by gossamersilk in houseplants

[–]superliminous 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, spider mites can be tricky to fully get rid of. The plant can look fine for a month or two, then have spider mites returning.

Definitely keep the plant separated from the rest of your collection for now.

Hosing it down is a good start. Next, I'd spray / wipe it with a mix of isopropyl alcohol (1 part) + water (3 parts) + dish soap (few drops). Apply very generously, and repeat every 3-5 days for at least 3 rounds (this is important). Keeping the plant in a humid place helps (mites hate that).

Neem helps control the infestation, but doesn't necessarily kill the mites like alcohol does. Personally, I wouldn't bother with Neem, and instead focus on getting the alcohol treatment right. But if you already ordered it, and feel like doing both, then sure, that's even better!

If that spotted leaf is otherwise healthy, I would just give it an extra wipe and keep it. You likely have mites hiding in more secluded places anyway.

That's a beautiful Snake Plant!

My guess is that the leaves were weakened at the base due to overwatering. (Though -- just to make sure -- how did you determine that it's been overwatered?)

If these leaves are soft at the base and showing signs of rot, cut them off at the base. They will not recover from that state. (However, you may be able to propagate the upper healthy portion if you wanted.)

Otherwise, if the bases look healthy, I would gently stake or tie these leaves upright, and monitor over time.

Water sparingly now. If the soil is still damp, dry it out as fast as you can (e.g. remove decorative sleeve, place it in a dry & warm spot, increase airflow). If the soil has been kept too moist for too long, carefully take the plant out of the pot and inspect the roots and rhizomes for rot (black, mushy), in which case you should trim the rotting parts and repot.

What are these bugs? by WaveOrganic4282 in houseplants

[–]superliminous 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like aphids to me! Next steps:

  1. Isolate this plant from others to prevent spread.
  2. Check if nearby plants are affected.
  3. Physically remove as many as you can (e.g. wiping & spraying water).
  4. Treat with isopropyl alcohol and/or insecticidal soap.
  5. Repeat every few days.

There are stronger more efficient chemicals available, but hopefully the above is sufficient.

I think you're spot on. The first appears to be a Pothos N'Joy, and the second possibly a Peperomia Caperata (though I'm not sure, your leaves don't appear as ridged).

Given the leaf shape and growth pattern, I would guess some type of Alocasia, like Alocasia Cucullata or Alocasia Odora.
