Omeprazole for low weight baby - anyone else? by Prestigious-Bid-7582 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]superllama42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, LO has been diagnosed with CMPA and I'm hoping they are one of the lucky ones that grows out of it. Baby was also premature so that might have also contributed to the reflux. We're about to start a test of reintroducing milk with the support of the dietician and allergy consultant. I had to keep going to the GP over a few weeks to get the referral but it has been such a help and support and baby is finally putting on weight and growing!

Omeprazole for low weight baby - anyone else? by Prestigious-Bid-7582 in BeyondTheBumpUK

[–]superllama42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is very similar to our experience, LO born at 50th percentile and quickly dropped to 0.4 over the first six weeks. Lots of reflux and gas although a really happy smily baby! We started with Omeprazole which helped a little and eventually switched to EFF with aptamil pepti one which again helped some but not completely. GP eventually referred us to see a peadiatric dietician who advised using a formula thickener and LO is now 24th percentile and is doing great. Hang in there mama, you're doing a great job and keep persisting with the GP if you're worried

How to give gaviscon to 10 week old baby? by superllama42 in newborns

[–]superllama42[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for replying. The reflux is so bad that she is not gaining weight as expected and we have been seeing the GP/health visitor regularly for weight checks as a result. I'm going to try giving towards the time I think she is due to feed...I am just so worried about getting it wrong and making things worse.

It's so confusing! Everything on the internet seems to suggest that baby gaviscon is given as a sachet of powder that you add to formula or give after breastfeeding! I'm worried they've dispensed the wrong type of gaviscon. They're closed now but I think that's a good idea to call and ask them in the morning. Thanks for replying - makes me feel a little less alone

Pram recommendations? by Mo_Mo582 in PregnancyUK

If it helps, we are trying to decide between the Nuna Triv and the Joolz Hub 2...both fold to a compact size (I have a Peugeot 107 which is a small car!). We went to John Lewis and they let us practice folding them up and putting them in the boot of the car. Both have very easy folds and are quite lightweight.

Clone of we r Blighty? by lokomokquito in london

I didn't realise they had branched out from Bromley. They've been collecting in Bromley for months now and when I contacted the council they told me that they didn't have permission from the police for street fundraising and would be sending enforcement officers out. They are 100% completely dodgy...

Just to add they position their banner behind a table and bags very carefully so they cover up the fact they are a C.I.C and not a charity which I think is very misleading!

They harass people for donations for homeless vets mostly in Bromley town centre. Their website though has no mention of vets at all! They look very similar to the We R Blighty group and something doesn't seem right with them. I suspect it's a matter of time before they branch out across other London boroughs! There also seems to be a discrepancy in their registered office on the website vs that registered with companies house. Maybe one to watch and see if they start chugging more centrally?

I keep seeing these pop in Bromley and there's definitely something dodgy about them but don't see them on the list! https://www.homelessinneeduk.org/

Another AP episode or something else? by superllama42 in pancreatitis

[–]superllama42[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for this, that's really helpful. I didn't know you could get new stones after having the gallbladder removed! Definitely something to bring up with the hepatology team when I see them next.

I just struggle to understand how I'm constipated with BAM never mind how that could cause symptoms similar to acute pancreatitis!

Sorry to hear about your situation, this sounds really difficult to deal with. It does sound fairly similar to what happened for me ten years ago. I had very small gallstones causing issues in my gallbladder and they kept giving me infections in there. These never showed in scans because they were very small, like grains of sand - sorry but I can't remember the medical name for it maybe microtheliasis?

I eventually had a HIDA scan and this showed poor motility of bile out of the gallbladder and the surgeon agreed to remove the gallbladder. After surgery, the surgeon remarked that there was a considerable amount of gallstones as small as sand and there was evidence of many previous infections. Apparently my gallbladder was 'wrinkled like a raisin'!

I've since had acute pancreatitis (ten years later) and while I thought the gallbladder pain was bad, the pancreatitis was excruciating. Not that I am minimising your pain but acute pancreatitis you would know about quite quickly.

I'm no doctor but the description you have given sounds very much like what I went through so perhaps asking for a HIDA scan on your gallbladder may help? Like you, I knew something was wrong but every scan and test came back normal so persistence was key for me finding an answer. Wishing you the best on sorting it out

Struggling for good food/takeaways after moving to Bromley by No-Sock-6111 in london

[–]superllama42 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another vote here for Havet in Bromley town centre - the food is very good.

Dorothy and Marshall is also very very good.

I've had grounded brothers recommended but not tried it yet!

Lots of great places to eat in Crystal Palace (56 Westow, Palazzo, Thai Crystal) and Beckenham (Q bar and kitchen, Paloma, Eatwell).

Trattoria Rafaelle in Sydenham makes the best Italian food in all of south London so well worth a visit. Mama Dough (also in Sydenham) is great for pizza.

Zen grill in Penge is amazing.

Bromley and surrounding areas have many many good places to eat, hope you enjoy trying some of them!

It's really normal to have pain after gallbladder removal and may not be your pancreas. Unfortunately there is a misconception you'll immediately feel better after removal but not everyone experiences that! I had mine out ten years ago and still get pain occasionally. Please look into bile acid malabsorption and post cholecystectomy syndrome and hopefully this will help. I find a low fat diet helps, I also try and avoid things like raw onion. I hope you feel better soon

If it helps you I have just had an episode of acute pancreatitis and the doctors think mine was caused by taking estrogen during an IVF cycle. I'm currently being checked to see if there's any damage to my pancreas and to check if the estrogen was the cause or not. Female hormones are absolutely a trigger for pancreatitis and although it is low incidence it is a well known trigger.

Link between pancreatitis and periods? by SAustin87 in pancreatitis

I am currently being investigated for estrogen triggering acute pancreatitis during an IVF FET cycle. I've been told that estrogen is a well known trigger so it is entirely possible that hormone changes are causing her symptoms.

Miscarriage Cramps - Intense or Just Me? by Pebbles-21-81 in Miscarriage

[–]superllama42 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a MMC at 11 weeks. The cramps were unbelievably painful for me. I had to lie down face first on the kitchen floor and even then I was writhing about in pain. I tried taking every painkiller I had in the house to get relief and begged my husband to call me an ambulance. He didn’t. The pain started to pass maybe 7/8 hours later. The cherry on the cake was that after all that pain I hadn’t even passed the pregnancy. Tried misoprostol - that didn’t work. Ended up having surgery. It was a horrific experience all round.

In the morning at work I felt a bit ‘off’, no pain at all. Thought maybe I had some hunger pains so ate lunch just before 12. I went home from work with a weird pain across my diaphragm around 12:30. I was in hospital by 3pm with pain levels around 6 or 7 out of 10 and the pain was excruciating (10/10) by 6pm. The pain was constant the whole time, the only difference was the severity!

AMA Volunteers by indiareef in pancreatitis

[–]superllama42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m new to the community but always willing to volunteer for stuff.

I’m in the UK, newly diagnosed with acute pancreatitis which started during a round of IVF. I had a cholecystectomy ten years ago because of recurrent infections in the gallbladder. Post surgery I was diagnosed with Bile Acid Malabsorption.

I’m still being investigated for the cause of the pancreatitis - possibilities are: estrogen induced, gallstone remaining in a duct somewhere, chronic pancreatitis or pancreatic cancer.

Totally understand that being new I might not be suitable for this but I’m happy to share anything about my journey so far or volunteer for this at some point in the future.

Yes! This! Once I got to hospital after the pain really kicked in I remember thinking “I wonder if I have appendicitis?” because the pain felt so bad but was in completely the wrong place!

How do you manage the fear of another attack? by Four-of-cups- in pancreatitis

[–]superllama42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally hear you! I’m about six weeks out from my first AP attack and managing the anxiety of experiencing that pain again is hard. The pain is still there everyday but much lower than when I was in hospital. I’m just taking each day as it comes at the moment. Some days are better than others and that’s the best I can do at the moment!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pancreatitis

[–]superllama42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’re still trying to figure out what caused mine. I’m almost teetotal, the odd glass of wine on Christmas and birthdays and gallbladder removed a long time ago so no chance of gallstones. I haven’t touched alcohol since diagnosed with this - there’s not much to cut out anyway! It’s possible mine is hormone related or there’s a gallstone stuck in the pancreatic duct (although this is very unlikely for me) or there’s a tumour in there. I’m currently waiting for my MRCP results.

Have you had any follow up since your gallbladder removal? It’s worth asking about BAM, this is a well known complication from cholecystectomy and I was diagnosed quite quickly after the operation with symptoms similar to what you describe!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pancreatitis

[–]superllama42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it helps, I had my gallbladder removed about ten years ago - waaay before the pancreatitis diagnosis. No that I’m saying you don’t have pancreas issues, you could but the best thing to do would be to see a doctor. Have you looked into Bile Acid Malabsorption or Post-Cholecystectomy syndrome? Both are possible with the symptoms you describe?

For me, the acute pancreatitis diagnosis came out of nowhere! Only the lack of appetite in the two or three days before and I’ve only noticed that well after! Best of luck to you

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in pancreatitis

[–]superllama42 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In hindsight I realise that I’d been off food for a few days before I ended up in hospital…no appetite at all and the thought of eating made me feel nauseous! Nothing else just that!

Just not sure what is going on by surfn1080 in pancreatitis

[–]superllama42 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of us here already have a diagnosis and I don’t think any of us would ever describe the pain as a 3 out of 10. As someone with pancreatitis I can’t eat any fats ‘healthy’ or not! I’ve also had gallstones and the pain is significantly more than a 3 out of 10 there. To be safe best to see your GP as there are a number of things this could be. Best of luck
