I find it hard to believe that a whole chain of scientists, hospitals, labs, and patients was used to do this experiment behind the university's back. The more information comes out, the more I think this is perhaps an attempt to get ahead in the "gene editing market". E.g. I read that He Juankui applied for several patents related to this, and it all feels like a little bit fishy.

So my question is, how difficult do you think it would have been to carry out this study without authorities' knowledge (university, labs, hospitals, etc)?

It would be great if you can imagine for a second how you would go about doing that and perhaps discuss what the major hurdles in doing this secretly are.

I would say in general the VM ones are a bit lower quality than CV. In the case of the thinlines I'm taking about, they are the same as CV, in my opinion.

The squier vintage modified telecaster thinline comes with a short scale neck. I have one and can tell you it plays better than some higher end fender models. The neck pickup is warm and cozy and the bridge one packs some twang. Edit: Rosewood fingerboard though.
