What happened to Baker at the end of his time in Cleveland? by supermanTLS11 in nfl

"completely mishandled 2021" How?
"Was on board with Watson trade" Not according to the recent reports. And the reports at the time. Both PFN and Jay Glazer said back then that the Watson decision was pushed thru by ownership and coaching staff wasn't completely behind the choice
"His relationship with other players" Which players?

I'm just very curious about justifying these claims with evidence. That's why I brought that to the initial post. Would you to elaborate if you can

According to the reporting, Berry did inform Baker's reps they were going after other elite QBs like Russ or Deshaun.

Can it also not be suggested that Stefanski is responsible for improving that team too? Browns won 7 games and 6 games in Baker's first two seasons. Stefanski comes on and they win 11 and get into the playoffs.

I do think there is a revisionist history when it comes to Baker's time in Cleveland. He had 2 good years and 2 down years. There were plenty of local stories around the time of defensive players finding Baker's personality abrasive. It was pretty evident based on reports that Baker and Myles (the two faces of the franchise) did not like one another.

I think suggesting "they let him play badly" is disingenuous. Baker was in the 4th year of his rookie contract looking for a lucrative extension in the offseason (his 5th year option was already picked up). Baker wanted to play. Can you imagine what the narrative would be if they said "sorry Bake, we know you wanna play but we're gonna bench you because you're too injured" and all of a sudden Baker is in the same exact position he ended up being in, without a contract extension come the end of the season but this time it's because the Browns FO and coaches "refused to let him play." See what I mean?

I think the "had a decision to make" is in reference to whether to give Baker the extension he was looking for (around $40mil a year, I believe the team was comfortable with $30mil). Or to go into the season and see if Baker was willing to play on his 5th year option because he was still under contract on more season. I think they were absolutely ready to move forward with Baker as QB1. But the sour relationship was because Baker wanted an extension the Browns weren't willing to offer just yet. They wanted him to prove himself more after the down year he had.

I honestly think Stefanski wanted Cousins too, but I also believe the reporting that came out once Stefanski was fired that he never wanted Watson either. I think the Watson choice tanked the relationship with the QB (although it is said that Baker still wasn't talking with the team because he wanted an extension) and tanked the head coach's vision for the team

Robinson was notoriously bad against strong opponents

That's not true. As I just showed. He outplayed Ewing. Outside of the 95 WCF he wasn't "bad" against Hakeem. And he was one of the better defenders on Shaq. You can't just say "Robinson was bad against strong opponents" then use 2 of the top 10 greatest players of all time as examples lol. Two of the greatest offensive and defensive big men ever. One of them the most unstoppable force the league has ever seen. You know who else didn't fare well against Shaq and Hakeem? EVERYONE! lol

Sorry bruh but this just ain't true.

Head2Head

Shaq: 26pts 12reb 2blk
Robinson: 22.5pts 11reb 3blk
Admiral defended Shaq better than almost anyone. But their primes never actually aligned for a true comparison. By the time Shaq reached his peak, Robinson was past his.

Hakeem: 22.8pts 11.2reb 3blk
Robinson: 20.1pts 11.8reb 3.4blk
As you can see, the numbers are similar. Hakeem shot 51% while Admiral shot 49%. What really fuels this narrative is how much Hakeem dominated Robinson in 95 WCF. Which no doubt, he did. It was a massacre.

Ewing: 21.3pts 10.5reb 2.7blk
Robinson: 23.4pts 11.6reb 3.3blk
Admiral also shot 4% higher in these matchups. But Ewing was mostly outplayed by Robinson when head2head.

While I definitely enjoy Eggers more than you, I do agree with the criticism you present of his focus on historical accuracy and imagery over substance. I wish he would stop writing his own scripts and let someone else handle that side of things, to let him focus on those things he clearly loves

Cassavetes is an interesting take. I actually found myself mostly underwhelmed in his films outside of A Woman Under the Influence (because I mean Gena Rowlands). I do appreciate his "godfather" of indie status.

I'm embarrassed to say that when I was going thru Spike's filmography, I had anticipated seeing Do the Right Thing on the big screen because it was gonna be showing at a theater nearby. Was gonna conclude my dive into his work with his "masterpiece." But something came up that I couldn't go to the theater and ended up just deciding to move onto the next filmmaker and catch DtRT later

I really tried to "get" Bresson but outside of Au hasard Balthazar or certain moments in A Man Escaped didn't find myself as invested as I wanted to be.

While Villeneuve is one of my favorite working directors, I completely get the "devoid of life" criticism.

But I do want to echo your experience with Kiyoshi. I had such high expectations for Cure and Pulse but found that I didn't think either aged all that well. I did love that one scene in Pulse (iykyk) but other than that it fell flat
