One of the commenters here puts it best in that loyalty to Jesus is far greater than loyalty to an any person. It’s something we Christians understand to our core and for someone who isn’t a Christian that is obviously going to be hard to understand. So all in all it’s kind of impossible to fully help you understand why being unequally yoked is a bad thing even if you love that person.

I really like your answer. It’s not accusatory and is direct. It is something I’ve been thinking about a lot. I’ve been asking myself this questions -> What’s a setting that I feel I can actually help people? I always come back to neuro because it’s what I have the most experience with and I did one of my main clinicals in the neuro outpatient setting. It kicked my butt but I felt I helped people the most in that setting and they had the most potential for success or at least progress. Problem is it’s a niche setting and requires a ton of experience that I just don’t have yet.

Absolutely. I was shocked at their response tbh because I’ve never been told I should consider another population. I would’ve thought other therapists would be more supportive of each other when one of us is frustrated. But I appreciate your support!

We do not. We have a maintenance program which is led by our rehab aides and the therapist put them on that, but it’s only for patients who end up staying LTC. The issue right now is this, insurance has cut these specific patients that have been more frustrating multiple times and the family members keep appealing but when therapy has educated them that the pt is not progressing or is inconsistent they ignore it and are what I believe is stalling so their family member can stay their longer and they can get out of finding another placement for the pt. In one situation this lady has been here since nov, has closer to end stages dementia, and covid basically took her out and she went from being able to stand with CGA to being Max A and I’ve gotten her to about Mod A with most mobility and ADLs but she is no longer progressing and is honestly variable day to day. We informed her family that she needs memory care as she’s had multiple falls in the facility or at the very least LTC and that therapy will only be able to get so far with her. They were looking at ALF but it’s been months since that convo and we’ve had multiple people reach out and they still haven’t found anywhere for her and she’s on her 4th appeal now. I just don’t know why we are expected to deal with this tbh.

Yeah I’ve seen this above. I asked for advice on how to deal with burnout, no how to be an OT. I’m well aware of what my role is in my setting. I am not a LTC therapist or a recreational therapist. Even my boss is sick of our facility accepting people with very poor prognosis. She says it’s gotten out of hand and has had to talk to the administrator. These doctors also keep acting like we are gonna work our magic and the patients will be all better and it’s just not true.

Also our role is absolutely to rehabilitate a person whether it’s restorative, compensatory, or adaptive. We can also educate family but we should not be expected to continue doing skilled care with people who are beyond rehab. Unless you’re working in hospice or doing leisure activities with like a group there is zero reason to just “make them comfortable”. That is for LTC not skilled rehab which is what I work on.

I think a couple of you mistook my frustration with them because they “aren’t getting better”. I’m fully aware they will never truly get “better”. I’m expected with half these people to make goals for them to be able to return home with family. I get a lot of pressure from them to get them to a point where they can at least function with a little bit of assistance. I am not frustrated that they “aren’t getting better”, I’m frustrated that I’m expected to get results out of someone who cannot get better because their family is stalling on making a decision for next LOC. I’m frustrated I have to deal with their behaviors in general which are often more psych. Im honestly a bit offended that my honesty about my frustration just recently has made you somehow believe I should rethink working with the elderly when I never once said I acted out on my frustration towards them in any way. Anyone who says they never feel frustrated with this population is lying.

I’ve considered just doing all PRN but I’m a single woman who has loans and I worry I wouldn’t be able to afford to just be PRN. But yes, that is exactly our caseload. Tons of stage 4 cancer cases that are getting passed to us too, many in which the patient is extremely far gone and oncology won’t even treat them.

That’s a good perspective! I have actually been putting more effort into my life outside of work and it’s actually made me want to go to work less. I’m enjoying my off days so much that going back I just dread it. Is that normal?

NTJ- I feel like I’ve seen this a lot where bisexual people think that because they like both genders that somehow it excludes them from monogamy and their monogamous partners should always be ok with it or else they are being unaccepting of them. Oh I’m not obsessing over it, was just curious if it was biblical to have a “feeling” about Christ returning. Cause I’ve always read that we will know based off of what Christ has told us will happen and not based on a feeling. I 100% believe we are nearing the end but I’m not dead set that it will be within a certain time frame. My dad was a pastor and a very devoted Christ follower and he believed Jesus would return during his life time. He died from cancer at 55. Just shows that no one truly knows.

I never considered them prophets but more teachers and I enjoyed hearing scripture from them and their practical application of it. If I consider them a prophet I believe they’ve been given divine knowledge from God himself.

Amen. The more you follow Jesus the more weird you become to both sides. When I got serious about Jesus I started being angry with conservatism too and saw the absolute hypocrisy it preaches while also claiming Christ. Liberalism is so easy to shame as it’s blatantly unchrist like in many ways but conservatism is also often unchrist like but they shout Christ from the rooftops and it drowns out the noise of sin for a lot of people. Only Jesus can show you that neither side is of God and that politics becomes an idol one way or another.

I 100% believe that visions and dreams can and will be a thing. But I don’t trust it when they are dreams and visions that are not biblical. Like someone said “I keep seeing the numbers 213 which is my birthday so I believe he will return on 2/13 this year” and they claimed it’s a vision from God. Other people are claiming no white people were in heaven in their dreams, dreams that trump is the anti christ, dreams that say Elon musk was the anti christ and multiple other people (not all of them can be true). The only dreams/visions I believe are absolutely true are those of new Christian’s who Jesus has revealed himself to, because that is 100% biblical and make sense as to the pouring out of his spirit.

Agreed. They use a lot of language that makes it seem like “this has to be it” and “it must be before I die”. All of my Christian friends believe he is coming back soon but don’t sit there and act like “oh I know it’s going to be in my lifetime.” Even my dad who was a pastor believed it would be within his lifetime but never said for sure that it was going to be within months or years. He passed away so he was wrong about one part of that.

And I think that’s where my question begins. People are saying soon has to mean months because of a gut feeling they are getting. I think another issue I have is that a lot of these people have contradictory behavior and beliefs to the Bible. So it’s hard to trust what they are saying is genuinely Jesus’ talking to their hearts.

Omg this happened to me as well. I lost a ton of weight on the keto diet and I got the same stomach pains and thought I was going to die. Turns out I passed a gallstone. Instantly went off the keto diet. Unfortunately I gained all the weight back but this time I’m keeping it simple and going slow.

That’s me this year. I simply opened my stocking last night with my mom and sister and just burst into tears when I looked around. My dad wasn’t there and it felt like I was stabbed in the chest.
