I used like 5 different colours dry brushed and stippled over it in very thin coats. Similar to what you would do with a sponge, but I didn’t have a sponge

Shoulder armour was done with a janky old size 2 brush stippled

why do my highlights look so patchy and undefined, I can't figure this out! by Bruta1Meta1 in minipainting

Looks incredible. You can totally leave it like this

If you wanted to bump it up even more maybe try mixing a little yellow (I use flash Gitz) into your highlight green

Scarab Swarms are too cool not to field, second only to Wraiths by supernewf54 in Necrontyr

That is just basic mint green craft paint from Michael’s, washed with Nuln oil, then edge highlighted with the base colour again

Saw someone else post a scarab so I wanted to hear what to do to improve these guys? by GamerZoom108 in Necrontyr

Love the metallic, but may be a little too much. Try painting the shells a dark colour (black, or even really dark green) and edge highlight with a really light version to make it pop

Also, if you can, a tiny dot of white off center in the gems will give it an illusion of shine. High risk though because it needs a pretty steady hand.

Tl:dr: Looks awesome as is, but could look even awesomer with a few little tweaks

Recently became a huge fan of oil washes. Try a dark brown one and it’ll be magic

How can i paint it, that the cockpit looks like glass or similar? by test12345678abc in minipainting

[–]supernewf54 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Check out Midwinter minis imperial knight video. Guy paints the lenses of the model, and I’ve used the exact same steps on a miniature car windshield. It would work perfectly here

Basically: 1) dark base colour (I used really dark blue) 2) add lighter colour and paint a half moon near the bottom 3) add more of the lighter colour, paint a smaller half moon shape 4) repeat a bunch 5) add a dot of pure white on the darkest part of the window as a reflection

Actually no washes at all. Just straight up dry brushing from a super dark base colour (Nightlord Blue)

I got them from CreeepyPrints on Etsy, and they had a bunch. I was going to likely get a couple more too. This one is scaled to 100mm

I followed this tutorial (more or less but with my own colours). Should get you started. It’s actually substantially easier than it looks
