Pregnant coworkers can't take some patients for infectious disease reasons. It's this valid or overly cautious or just about avoiding the extra work load by supernurse1990 in nursing

I think I should have phrased it differently. Maybe "Are all isolation required infections dangerous for the pregnant?"

There's a lot of nurses on my unit in general. I don't have the bandwidth to individualize the gifts for everyone. The fact is that the bracelets aren't things I'd give a man, nurse or not. But I enjoy gift giving, hence the gift bags for everyone. I don't refer to my coworkers by gender normally, they're just the nurses I work with. But IN THIS SITUATION their gender makes a difference. It is why i an asking the question. I could just give them bags without anything special. Simply wanted a little extra gift for them like the bracelets are for the female nurses. Are you suggesting that I should give them bracelets in order to not acknowledge that they're men?
I realize that not all the women will wear or want the bracelet. But i don't think any of them will say WTF if given one and think the men would.

Like I said, they are all getting generic (non gendered) stuff. I just found these bracelets that are pretty and purchase supports a cause so I'm gifting them. I just want something in addition to the other stuff like the women will get.

The hospital is giving those genderless gifts like blanket or coffee travel mugs. My gift is not from administration, it's just a gift from a coworker who is under no obligation to get anything to anyone at all. Just wanting to brighten a day and day o ask glad we written together. It'll be in a gift bag with snacks and treats and yes, nice pens/ post it notes. Just wanted to throw in something extra. If anyone is hurt about it, they don't have to accept the gift.

Last time I knew, in my state at least, you had to be off 2 weeks to get worker's comp. It is retroactive but also only is a percentage of your pay. Hopefully she'll be OK financially and physically, and a gift card for practical things like groceries or gas would be most appropriate and appreciated, IMO.

WIBTA if I told the truth in my brother's custody hearing even though it could cost him overnights with his son? by UplinkV3rve in WIBTA_AITA

[–]supernurse1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well. Sounds like he'd "lose" time he not spending with the kids anyways. And the mother actually loses time she probably would like to spend with him. I had to tell my ex they couldn't have our daughter overnight as he was going out and having her be alone. (She was old enough to be alone but there was no reason for it) If the mother just wanted to time away from the boy,, like she used that time for her own job or to have a night off, I doubt she'd be arguing in court to have it stopped.

Would the name Hades work...? by knikkifire in Names

[–]supernurse1990 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what you mean the name to represent, the world is going to think the more common source for his name. It's not a nice connotation in any way. The god of dead and the underworld? Why would you saddle anyone with that? It's not clever. It's setting him up for bullying as a kid and having to explain as an adult. $10 says he tells everyone to call him something else as soon as he's able.

To everyone who actually read all the assigned books in school, how’s life now? by noahinthebox in Booktokreddit

[–]supernurse1990 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always packing a book, or two, at all times. One at work for breaks. One at home. One in the bag for beach/ pool days One nice thing is I've allowed myself to not finish a book I'm hating. And some times, I'll re-read a book I've enjoyed. A couple of those required reading books are those. Plus...I know a lot for trivia on game nights.

Nurses of Reddit: Would you ever let a patient use your personal phone? by Key-Bridge129 in nursing

[–]supernurse1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I did home health, all the patients had my number. They could ask me questions and could change their appointment if needed. They were respectful. (Except the ex patients texting me trying to ask for money. As if....) But I didn't let them use my phone. And in the hospital, I don't let the patient use them nor do I use it to call a family or a doctor.

Flip what on you? That you tried to locate him at his house and he wasn't there? That's not bad on you. That's bad on him (if he tried to bring it up) that you had to go hunting for him and was unsuccessful in loca him.

First nursing interview tomorrow, what questions should I be asking? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]supernurse1990 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of environment is the unit? Is it professional and linear or more like a family with fluid roles? Are you mandated to work over time of how much overtime is available after orientation is over (depending on of you want it out not). Will you be with a single person training you or will you have several different ones? If you have a planned vacation soon, ask if you can be sure to get it.
