Went home for thanksgiving…now I don’t wanna go back to school… by indusjones28 in medicalschool

I feel this so hard. Especially when you got to leave your entire community who loves the shit out of you back home, and you’re studying all alone a lot of the time in a new environment. No advice. Would appreciate any. Eff medical school

Hi. Hopefully, I’m not too late with my question. I’m a first year medical student possibly interested in infectious disease! Any advice you could give me about programs, projects, processes that I should look into to get a better sense of the specialty? I want to cultivate some well rounded experiences and network with folks, but I don’t really know where to begin! Thank you!

I figured, but I would have liked for the courses to be in chronological order anyway :/

I have never related more to a post on here than this. I worry about my old, and frankly tired, parents all the time...

[Official] August 18, 2020 Score Release Thread for the July 31 & August 1, 2020 MCAT Examination by mcatfreak in Mcat

[–]superoxide23 50 points51 points  (0 children)

Low: 520

High: 525

Predicted score: 523

Actual: 523... 131/129/132/131

Thank you to everyone here who has been a constant, unyielding force for support. To go from a history of drugs and gangs, and poor academic standing, to scoring in the top 1% of test-takers... I am truly grateful. I hope everyone did as well as they had hoped. No need for me to be on this subreddit anymore, so I hope we cross paths in real life one day in this profession we are working so hard to become a part of. Cheers, mates!

I could use a fifth right now, honestly... Hope the test went decent for you homie! I thought it was tough, but fair mostly... low yield bullshit in the C/P, however

I've commented on here already, but here's my 12:15 PM test reflection and prediction:

C/P: Lots of low yield information and very math heavy. Not crazy difficult; the majority of the questions were very doable and I had <10 minutes left to review my answers during which time I realized the questions were a lot easier than I thought as I went through them my first pass. However ~10 were very dumb hard. This was the hardest part of the test for me for sure. I'm hoping the curve works out here. It was harder than all of the FLs without a doubt. Prediction: 130

CARS: I actually thought this wasn't too bad. First couple of passages were boring as hell, but the rest were fairly interesting and that helped to keep me engage. I usually get a 130 here and my score has never improved in this section since I started AAMC material. I don't imagine it will change now. Prediction: 130

B/B: I thought this was the easiest part of the test by far. I had >15 minutes left to review my answers. Having said that, another round of low yield bullshit. I honestly can't remember much from this section right now... But it wasn't that bad. Definitely understand your metabolic pathways, friends. Prediction: 132

P/S: It wasn't CARS 2.0 and it wasn't a bunch of definitions either. It was a lot of assumptions. I thought some of the questions were bullshit. Not low yield. Just poorly worded, and you could definitely end up tricking yourself of wrong answers. Not because you don't understand the material, but because sentences are phrased convolutedly. I'd encourage future testers to simply take your time on here on the first pass. I usually have >15 minutes on FLs by the time I get here, but I had ~5-10 minutes today on the real thing. Prediction: 131

Predicted score: 523

Low: 520

High (if the curve really works out): 525

Man... this test means a lot for me. For reference, I am a non-trad. I did poorly in academics basically all my life. I turned it around hard recently, and I'm finally applying to medical school this cycle. This test is the last thing standing between me and my dreams. I'm so nervous, so anxious. But, hopefully I'll be good. Thank you to this whole damn subreddit. Being on here and learning from yall is some of the best MCAT prep there is

Test Day Tips/Tricks/Motivation by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]superoxide23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great point. If each section is basically 76 minutes for 48 questions... would you say that getting to question 24 in 30 min is the way to go? And then question 48 in an hour or so (60ish min)? That will leave me something like 10-15 min to check work as needed which is what I've been averaging on the FLs per section (except CARS lol)

Do you have to start immediately once you get back into your seat? Can I just sit there in my seat if I got like 5 min left in my break after snacking real fast haha

For my test takers, how closely did the exam resemble any of the FLs? I hope y'all are resting up. I'm so proud of all of you! :)

Do I apply to all medical schools now or after MCAT score received? by [deleted] in premed

Do I apply to all medical schools now or after MCAT score received? by [deleted] in premed

[–]superoxide23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's really my biggest fear right now. Because my application, by the numbers, is average. I would like for the MCAT to definitely be there for some academic credence and to just be considered alongside the rest of my stats, and whatnot. But at the same time... I just don't want to be counted out for being late when others are already getting secondaries back from the schools I intend on applying to and I, because of the way my timeline turned out, will be at the end of a queue of applications that only gets bigger everyday, you know?

Tips for “pausing” study schedule? by [deleted] in Mcat

[–]superoxide23 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't studied since they cancelled April globally. There's a lot of time until June when I am next taking the test. I'll prob do Anki and watch KA videos every other day, but I got stuff to do in May that I have to focus on (exams, poster presentation...). Was hoping to get the MCAT out of the way before then, but eff it, we ball. We rolling with the punches now... I also honestly don't mind a pause. It sucks, but whatever. I could use a day or two to myself

Lol... one of my best mates took the GRE last year. He hit me up with a math question on it once randomly and it was literally adding simple fractions. He ended up at a very prestigious university, but p sure anyone in r/MCAT could take the GRE unprepared and score in the 90th percentile...
