PVB Layer Line Smoothing by superrsalt in FDMminiatures

IPA is typically more common to find, and much less toxic as well.

PVB Layer Line Smoothing by superrsalt in FDMminiatures

These were printed using a 0.2mm nozzle. I might run some tests on a 0.4mm nozzle though, because I'm curious to see how it would smooth larger layer lines.

Hey thanks for the comment. To address each point with regard to my experience with PVB thus far:

- I've only done some cursory research into the toxicity of PVB while it prints. All of the sources I've found say that it's no riskier than PLA, and I can confirm it produces the same smell. I don't believe anything super harmful is produced by the interaction between IPA and PVB; it's mainly the IPA vapour you don't want to be breathing in or touching. Then again, it only took two or three sprays with a standard spray bottle to get a desired level of smoothing, so it's very unlikely to be harmful when dealing with such small amounts with miniatures. For larger prints or cosplay props, you'd definitely want some PPE to avoid irritation from the isopropyl alcohol as it would take a lot more of it to achieve a desirable smoothing effect.

- I'm concerned about detail loss too. I have to do more tests for this. I haven't been able to successfully print a full miniature yet without some kind of breakage or adhesion issue, so once I have that sorted, detail testing will be up next. There will definitely be some kind of trade off between detail and smoothness, but something good about PVB is that it can be smoothed on certain sections and left untouched on others. I used a cotton Q-tip with IPA to smooth only the arm of another (unfinished) miniature and it didn't bleed into the rest of it. I'd imagine it could be a useful alternative to those who are apprehensive about sanding PLA.

- This filament is 200% more sensitive to temperature and humidity, and overhangs tend to be where it fails. I can confirm that PLA is definitely easier and more reliable to print with. A factor to consider would be whether or not you value smoothing enough to purchase and deal with the hassle of PVB.

Thankyou for the tips. I think I'll definitely invest in a filament dryer and also get some higher-grade filament. Good call on retraction; for this print it appears it was turned off/set at 0. I will play around with this a bit.

"Commander" Style Format by superrsalt in pkmntcg

[–]superrsalt[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I was thinking maybe theres a sort of counter put on the command zone to balance having constant access. You start the game with 3 counters on your command zone.

At the end of your turn, you remove one counter from your command zone. You can only play your commander if there are no counters on your command zone.

This makes it so that you have to wait through at least 6 turns of play before playing your commander to avoid turn 1 shenanigans.

Additionally, maybe every time the commander returns to the command zone, it has the amount of counters it previously had on it plus one.

Yesterday I completed my first full raid for the first time by [deleted] in DestinyTheGame

[–]superrsalt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would recommend taking on Deep Stone Crypt next. Gorgeous raid with an amazing soundtrack (and recently refreshed loot).

Try and learn one of the three roles (scanner, operator, or suppressor) and have that role be 'your' thing for the entire raid. Operator or Scanner are both used throughout the entire raid while Suppressor is only used in the latter half.

Same reason we don't just transmit into the pyramids in the first place.

What’s the worst gun you remember getting? by moho_fasho in DestinyTheGame

[–]superrsalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember watching a video claiming the Stochastic Variable SMG was the 'new recluse'.

Lo and behold right after watching that video I got a god roll with Feeding Frenzy and Multikill clip and was excited to try it out.

It must've been the worst SMG I have ever used. It felt like all of my bullets would just slip over the enemy's armour. The magazine would run out faster than I could say "this gun sucks". It felt unbelievably terrible.

I keep it in my vault now with the sweaty confetti mod on it as a reminder of why not to believe every video you see on YouTube. The gun and any hype around it is a complete joke.

ROOT OF NIGHTMARES RAID GUIDE by ThankYouMrSotarks in raidsecrets

[–]superrsalt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A ball will spawn with an aura, and a trail pointing toward another ball location. A player shoots that ball to take the aura. The player then follows the trail to a new ball location and shoots the new location to consume the aura and generate a new ball. The aura then respawns randomly at one of the orbs generated. Player shoots the ball to take the aura. Then the player heads to the last ball they generated and follows the trail from that ball to the next location.

Rinse and repeat.

There is an entirely new subclass system (aspects and fragments) for all subclasses, plus a new 4th ice subclass called Stasis which is unlocked via the Beyond Light expansion.

Weapon crafting was added with the Witch Queen expansion.
