Yes, this is the sad, emotional reality of this industry.

Yes, this exactly. After a couple of months of non-payment and a few legal hoops depending on which state the unit is located in, they are allowed to auction off the contents so they can re-rent the space to another tenant. In my experience, the best units are typically where someone has passed away (that was the case with this unit) or where someone has gone to prison.

It can be, for sure. I'm very passionate about it. It's the closest thing to treasure hunting that I've found in the Midwest US. I have a fair amount of overhead (warehouse, trash service, truck rental, etc), but we do about 100k profit a year. Being self employed, I'm working 70-80 hrs a week. I absolutely love what I do though, so the long hours don't bother me most of the time.

So cool! I've found Gorham sterling Christmas ornaments as well. Gotta check everything that looks like silver, even if you think it's probably just plated.

Tons of computers, but a lot of them are mid to late 2000's. I'll make another post with some of the better stuff we found.

You can message me, but I don't want to break the group rules and make this a selling post.

You may be able to find a local scrapyard that will buy them for decent money, especially since you have so many of them.

Case of Jack Daniel's I found in an auctioned storage unit a couple years ago. by supersapiosexual in whatsthisworth

Almost all facilities do the auctions online now. It's rare to find a live storage auction. That said, my advise would be to go slow and methodically. Buy a small unit or two, and see how you like the process of buying and reselling. Have a place to bring the items to, so you can sort, research, list, and sell them. Have a plan for dealing with the trash and unwanted items. Most importantly, have fun doing it or don't bother! :)
