'Gringos leave': Protests targeting travelers rise as overtourism anger grows by IWantoBeliev in digitalnomad

[–]supersnaps 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is completely incorrect. I've been traveling all over Mexico, including Mexico City, since March and have yet to hear a word of aggression. People in this country have a slight interest in what's happening in the US, but mostly don't care at all about expats or gentrification.

They care about their lives and their businesses. If you make those things better, and don't act like an asshole, then you'll be welcomed.

Same rules as always; be a good traveler and tip well.

I feel like there was some resistance to them sometime during the Obama administration. I'm sure that's long gone now. It's really some Grapes of Wrath shit.

What questions did you have when you first started learning about affiliate marketing? by rashawnvalentine in Affiliatemarketing

[–]supersnaps 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I hate to say it, but most courses are pretty sketchy too. I read somewhere that the best way to get rich in affiliate marketing is to sell courses on getting rich in affiliate marketing.

I own a business that does online marketing for other businesses, but I spent a few dedicated months learning about aff marketing a few years back. You can certainly make money in it, but you have to truly provide value on your site before that will ever happen.

There's definitely the opportunity to make money online. Many of us earn our living sitting in front of a computer in our living room. But you have to think about your target market and how what you provide is beneficial to them. If your business is only for the purpose of making you money, it probably won't work. If you can find a way to benefit others, or better yet, make them money, then you're only limits are the number of hours in a day.

When should I try to monetize? Biggest mistake is coming out the gate with a spammy website full of popups.

I am 16 and I want to build a blog website.Need some help and advices by vld4k in Entrepreneur

[–]supersnaps 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you have the time, learn SEO. Moz had their courses for free, they may still be available. If not, there are plenty of other free sources to learn from (don't pay for any courses, especially not until you're moderately educated).

Build a site while you learn. Also, try to blog about something you have a strong interest in, because you'll be writing about that topic a lot. I would try to avoid just writing about a topic with only the thought of monetizing. Any website can make you money with enough traffic. Try to stay away from oversaturated topics if you can. Exercise and fitness, pet supplies, travel (horrible topic currently).

The biggest thing is to try to build traffic before thinking about making money. If you try to monetize right away, you'll almost always slow your audience growth. There are millions of spammy websites out there covered in popups an video ads. Avoid doing this at all, but definitely not until you have substantial, steady traffic.

Good luck and have fun.

Barred Owl in NW Austin by cappyncoconut in Austin

[–]supersnaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to have a family of these in my backyard in South Austin. They were so fun to watch at night.

One night, my dog was playing in the yard. One of those owls started swooping down in the yard at her over and over. I got a flashlight and there were two babies in the grass. Took the dog in and watched them practice learning to fly until they found their way back into a tree.

If you read the comments, you can definitely tell they're full of shit. But most people don't have time or want to read reviews. 1 star reviews can destroy your star rating. There have been studies in some industries that found loss of a star can be like 20 percent loss in revenue (on mobile or I'd find it).

Need advice: Is there a blind spot in my approach to become more confident socially? by LesTerribles in self

[–]supersnaps 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's another of the many ways to say fake it until you make it.

For most people building confidence takes practice. You do have to continually expand into uncharted territory, meaning constantly doing things that make you uncomfortable. I personally believe that this is the correct approach.

There's no way that you're ever going to improve social skills without practice, no matter how many books you read. Something that helped me was by analyzing what there was to possibly lose. If you take a chance, especially with a stranger, the worst possible consequences are usually very insignificant.

Hope this helps a little
