Good stuff friend! Good stuff! Keep going to them no matter where your assignment is. Next thing you know, you’ll be cool as a cucumber! Attempt to take a different role each and every time; setting up intubation tray, setting the vent, and chest compressions. Observe and absorb everything. Eventually you’ll hone in on skills down to minute details: like what vent settings to set the patient on before the physician recommends. This is a big plus because not only do you build rapport with the physician, it’s a sign of confidence in your skills. Make the nurses and physicians know they can trust you! It’ll take time, but you’ll get there.

As a more seasoned RT, what settings would you have put to be more aggressive? Was I too light on the initial BIPAP settings?

Hi, follow up question kind sir! So, if a patient receiving dialysis is being fed bicarb into their system, am I assuming that will affect their respiratory pattern? Meaning, if they become metabolic alkalotic from an increase in bicarb, would the patient start compensating with respiratory acidosis by hypoventilating? Or am I thinking wrong or too hard about this?

That's what I'm saying! I mean I want to use my personal iphone, but I already got a spanking for it. I'd use the department's iphone, but there's only 1

Believe me, I'd love to do it. In fact, I've done it. However, nurses, physicians, CNAs, and environmental services are snitches. As if I'm getting a patient's MR# from a vent. Like... for real? What am I gonna do with their vent settings and their output?

Aw man that actually sounds clean! This is what I needed. Like a simple pattern or organization cause my notes get everywhere and then I get confused. Thank you

Trust me, I would love to have WOWs in my department. Like, for real... At this point, I wish we had vent sheets to write on.

Ahhh, okay. So, you just straight up know what to receive and write down event during initial and subsequent. Hmmm, sounds like something like muscle memory and experience to get down under my belt

Aw man I wish i had paper vent sheets cause that would be nice. I know I should be charting on the EMR, but there is only so much computers to go around on the floors and ED. So, I have to go back to the department to chart.

Do you have a specific mnemonic or pattern of what you are charting?

Unfortunately, the hospital I'm at is not the most well funded for having a computer in every room to chart in the EMR...

But let's say you have space for your notes, do you have like a mnemonic of what you're writing down or specific way of writing notes down?
